We enjoyed camping at the 300 loop at Willow River State Park. We had a relatively quiet camping experience with polite camping neighbors all around us! Restrooms are located on each side of the loop (one side has vault toilets and the other side has flush). In the center of the grounds, there is a shower building for campers to utilize. The sites in the 200 and 300 loop are heavily wooded with plenty of shade and have a very rustic feeling. The camping in loop 100 looks very open with no shade and no privacy. I recommend reserving a campsite in loop 300 or 200.
The trails through the woods at the park are a lot fun and offer tons a great nature views. The main draw for the park, Willow Falls is a short 1 mile hike from the 300 loop campground. Heavily hiked trail with 3 different entrances, the falls can become crowded. Avoid this issue by doing the hike on a weekday.
Willow River State Park no longer has a beach or a lake, but they are working on the dam to refill the lake once again. Willow River falls is definitely a beautiful site to see. Definitely a place to camp if you like to be active and explore the trails. Winter, summer or fall!
5 stars. 6 starts when they let go of the dam to refill their lake/beach.
Beautiful waterfall, zen experience, the state park puts on a lot of various activities through out every season. Visitors can also go behind the waterfall - tight squeeze, but worth it.
This campsite was nice. A quick trip from Minneapolis will get you there in a half hour. There are a bunch of hiking trails around the campground.
Located 5 miles outside of Hudson, Willow Creek State Park is large park with hiking, camp sites, fishing, canoeing, and the waterfall. The waterfall is a steep descent to the bottom but fun to visit and play in when water is low. To get to the waterfall you have to walk like 15-20 min. There are stairs that lead you to a cool view.
The group camping sites were private and spacious but you do have to cart in about .25 mile. For us this was frustrating as the website we booked at didnt say this. we had a few people with heart conditions in our group and wouldn't have chose this sort of site. grounds were clean but there was also no dumpsters in the group camping section. The man made beach was dried up but there is a beautiful waterfall you can play in
The trails here are clean and awesome to hike. The waterfalls are gorgeous and a must see! One of my favorite state parks to camp at 🙂
I stayed in the newest loop. This is a great campground. The site felt very private. Vault toilets were closed, so it was a long walk to the bathroom/shower facility. Hiking was not little kid friendly, at least the trail to the waterfall, however there were kid friendly events going on while we were there.
The waterfall here is absolutely gorgeous and it’s a really nice area if you’re wanting to go on a hike!
