Quiet - by design

Lake Cunard campground was designated a "Quiet" campground several years ago - one of only two in the 18 different Northern Highlands American Legion state forest campgrounds. That means no "noise producing devices", including generators, radios, TV's, video games, guitars, etc. No means none. Prohibited. It's good to know this before booking a reservation!

Also note that the posted rules for ALL campgrounds read, "At no time may a person engage in.. boisterous, unreasonably loud..or conduct that tends to cause a disturbance" - defined as " interfering with another person's enjoyment of the forest".

This transition in 2019 was perhaps difficult for long time visitors at Cunard to adjust to. However, the quieter experience there has become a favorite of many who appreciate the peaceful atmosphere. 👍 It is an older, more rustic property - and could use some updates (ie new toilets), but if you're looking for that serene Northwoods experience - Go!!

Must Whisper

It is a quiet campground, I can respect that. But camp friend was not so friendly. If we laughed out loud she would warn us.

Cozy, quiet getaway

Cunard Lake Campground was the perfect, beautiful 5-day getaway we were looking for. Not too busy, noisy or fancy. Great stay for my pup and I! Loved getting to paddleboard (brought my own) and listen to the loons day and night.

Home away from home

My father came here with his family growing up and brought us kids for the last 20+ years. Three different generations have seen this place and it will continue to be passed down. There are several different campground spaces that are all different. Some provide camper access, walk in private access and water access. Cunard Lake allows non motorized watercrafts and has a great swimming area. You will wake up to the sound of loons and go to bed with the sound of them.

Reserved and quiet

I love returning to this campground every year, it has some great walk in campsites and a good amount of privacy if that's what you're looking for. You can come here on the 4th of July without reserving ahead of time and still find plenty of open sites.

Beautiful and peaceful!

We had the perfect set up.. right on the water and tucked into the woods. Our neighbors were to far to hear us and the bathrooms were near by! We had a beautiful sunset every night and even got to see a double rainbow (: geocaching is hot in this area too!
