Been here loads of times! We’ve never not gotten a spot! It never feels crowded as the spots are spaced apart really well. Picnic tables and fire rings all provided. Secluded and safe. The air strip is awesome in the summer time!
Multiple spots surrounding the airstrip. Im working remote so having enough of a clearing that I can access the internet was important. Starlink gets the job done but my t mobile service was basically non-existent.
I stayed on the east side of the strip and there is plenty of space and locations to settle. I explored the loop to the south west of the strip and there were some large campgrounds that looked made for groups. Plenty of trails to explore as well. This section had rocks blocking vehicles from driving into the campground, so tents only. There is also an incredibly steep hill near the end of the loop that is absolutely not safe in winter.
There are two vault toilets on ends of the east side. The southern one was out of tp, so bring your own septic safe stuff just in case.
So many options for camping/parking. There are fire rings everywhere you look, so I’m assuming this is packed and busy in the summer?
Oh! Lots of bugs everywhere so be warned 🫣 The spots near the woods have more trash around them.
You can hear the roaring river! We didn’t try going down there, but there are some hiking trails that might get you to the water.
There are several toilets around. No trash cans, pack out. Fairly close to the park.
This is an airstrip, the planes are quiet so you don’t really hear them coming in. But hurry up and get a show if you hear them for take off!! Pretty cool!!
Absolutely amazing spots. Very spread out. Big rig spots for sure but road is very potholey. Go slow. Find a spot. Fire rings. Plenty of wood laying around and if there is no fire ban it’s even better. Hope you get lucky like I did. There is a pay slash donation and worth every penny. Somewhere around 5$ a day or if you’re strapped for cash just cross your fingers.
We had high hopes for this USFS campground, having read that it’s on an airstrip, it sounded neat. But we decided not to stay here after we checked it out. There were lots and lots of other campers there, lots of camo, lots of large pickup trucks that don’t slow down on gravel roads, lots of “don’t tread on me” flags. We drove to the end where the bathroom is and decided to turn around, though it seems that the camp spots do continue after that point. This was on a Saturday, in all fairness, so the vibe might be different during the week.
It’s a 14 day stay limit, and other than the toilets there are no other amenities, so please pack out your trash. At the entrance it says that the following passes are honored: Annual Northwest Forest Pass, Golden Eagle Passport, and Washington and Oregon Recreation Pass. However, at the bathrooms, there’s another sign that says a $5 day use fee required. Doesn’t make sense that camping is free with certain passes but for day use it’s a $5 fee, but since we weren’t staying we didn’t look much into it. No ATV or off road riding here.
Cell signal was very weak for Verizon and non-existent for ATT. Giving it 4 stars instead of 3 because it wasn't so bad that I wouldn't be willing to check it out again the next time we're in the area.

This is my favorite dispersed site so far. Plenty of room for larger rigs, very close to a river and lots of woods to explore nearby. Close enough to Mt. Rainier NP and nearby towns for supplies. Vault toilets if needed, and the airstrip was only used twice in the 4 nights we stayed, i think (heard one mid-day, and saw another late morning).
There is a single-lane bridge when turning in that could be tricky for a motorhome that is towing, but not enough traffic to cause us any issues getting in. For larger rigs - take the second left (at a Y-intersection, and then keep to the left and you won't have any trouble getting in. Going to the right at the Y takes you to an area that big rigs might have trouble finding spots or turning around, but still doable.
Was busy over the Labor Day weekend, prob around 50 trailers all together, couldn’t even count all the tents. We found a nice area for our 27 foot trailer that wasn’t too close to our neighbors. There are areas that are very shaded and areas that are open. Great for starlink and solar power. My only complaint was the trash that other campers left, mostly those tenting. A few had fires going even though it’s clearly posted NO FIRES. There was a notice posted saying the county is considering making it a reservation/charge area. $5 per night, tenting areas and smaller back in shaded areas are past the pit restroom. When you turn into the area, take the road to the left at the sign for the open area, the road straight is rough and heavily shaded.
Wide open area with plenty of space. The road to get on had some huge pot holes in it, but even in a sedan it was passable going slow enough.
Great find right off of 410 before the pass closes. Plenty of spots over 100 and room for vehicles or tents. If you can get in here you can camp. Fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets and a cool airfield. Plenty of snow but be careful of the signs and stay on designated roads.
Nice place for dispersed camping and only 5$! close the NP entrance and plenty of space here
100+ sites. $5/night. Can always find a spot. Dry camp only. 3 pit toilets spread out across the area. Can get a little loud depending on your neighbors. I avoid the big holidays.
This is such a cool place to camp! You are literally right on an active airstrip. There are roughly 40 sites spread out along a long narrow loop, with some walk in sites. There are no services here- no water, no, wifi, no trash pick up, no campground host(there is a moderately clean vault toilet). But it’s also free, or a$5 donation at the iron ranger. It was a little confusing. AND IT'S ON AN ACTIVE AIRSTRIP!! Most sites have good trees for hammocks. I strongly suggest you have a way to secure your food and trash as there are lots of squirrels and raccoons. Did I mention it's on an active airstrip? While no planes came in while I was there, I walked across the airstrip to the“comfort station” for fliers and read the log book. Two planes had flown in earlier in the day and left nice messages. It looked like 3-5 planes used the airstip a week in the warm months. The White River is between the campground/airstrip and the highway and it drowns out most of the road noise. I didn’t check things out on the other side of the airstrip too much, but it looked like there were some dispersed sites there as well.
Best in late fall when it's cooler. Less loud drunkards. Dont get me wrong, I love my cocktails but can get a little obnoxious. Can fit large RV's down a half mile rough road. I have been a few times in october/November in a 40 ft 5er. No hookups or onsite water. We went into Mt Ranier nat park and filled a 40 gallon tank from a waterfall along the road then pumped it into the rv. VERY large sites for RVS. Many smaller tent sites. We were there during military skydiving practice. Very cool!
I always thought this was called Buck Creek.. Always camped here when i was young. Love this place.
