great weekend camping with dogs
great campsite locations, dog friendly and great people

Plenty of spots for many types of campers. Most sites are very spacious with plenty of privacy and trees. Every spot has ample parking and space for campers or tents. We even hung 3 hammocks. They offer movie nights at their amphitheater on the weekends and even a pancake breakfast. Very nice employees that are helpful. Many hiking trails and even a boat dock. We dropped the kayaks in at the beach and explored around the lake. Very clean and good showers and restrooms throughout.
This is not a campground - it’s more like a park. It does have good fishing and a playground, and it is a good place for a cookout. They have bathrooms and a water fountain.
This is a well run camp with helpful staff, and I'm sure it will get better when they finish construction on the check in area. I wouldn't recommend our particular site, but there are some other wonderful sites closer to the lake for better views, or on the J loop with more space.
We had a good site in loop M. The bathrooms and showers were some of the least clean we have ever seen. The check in building had a fire and we never saw any employees.
tent camping two nights. very well run park. great facilities
In addition to having a pretty lake, lovely campsites that are spread apart nicely, clean facilities, lots of shade, boat ramps, etc.. this park is unique for it's Dog Park facility.
2 large fenced in field areas. One for small dogs, and one for large. There is enough room for several games of dog frisbee to happen at once. Then, there are 2 large fenced in areas for lake access. Balls, dog doo bags, trash bins.. all there. Lots of shade, water fountains, and plenty of running room. I can't rave about this park enough!
The only downside is there is poison ivy lacing the trail from the campsite down to the water, and the Dog Park portion is about 2 miles from the campsites.
Every time the campgrounds are clean, the staff is nice, the sites are large, and the roads are well marked.
We had reservations, but didn’t figure out how to check in. The site numbers were very hard to see and figure out. The numbers didn’t appear to be sequential. The worst part for us was that there were no tent pads for pitching the tent. We were there during a very rainy time and had to pitch the tent in a ditch. Water flowed under the tent so we had quite a bit of mud on the bottom of the tent when we packed up. Luckily our tent kept us dry inspite of its location. Space was extremely limited. The picnic table was on the driveway. There was poison ivy less than a foot from our tent. Restrooms and showers were adequate, but toilet paper rolls would fall in the floor if you weren’t careful. All three showers drained into the middle stall making it difficult to keep thing dry.
We got to the campground at 8pm, the office closed at 7 on Memorial Weekend... so we just went to our site according to the confirmation email we had. There were people already set up in our location. So we had to call the number and get an officer to come out. They had given our site to someone else and we had to move to a smaller site. We were very concerned that if we set up that someone might come tell us we were in their spot. Luckily that didn't happen.
Over all had a nice extended weekend at the site. The sites are spaced out wonderfully so you felt private.
I know there are a lot of bad reviews about the bathrooms and while they are not great I wouldn't complain until the end of the long weekend they were getting really nasty. Sunday night there was mud/sand everywhere and a lot of wet toilet paper. Monday morning same problem and the rolls of TP were almost out.
Also Sunday night there was no hot water in the men or women's showers, it was just above freezing, good thing it was a hot day (in the 90s) so it was bearable but overall it would have been very unpleasant in cooler temps.
It did rain A LOT one day we were there causing a HUGE HUGE pool of water outside the bathroom, you had to walk a good 5 feet around in the grass/mud to get around it.
I do want to say the young lady with the large nose ring who helped us with the camp site mix up was VERY sweet and kind and helpful. Sorry I never got her name to give her proper recognition.
From the campsite, it is a short drive, walk, or bike ride to just about everything. It sits just 10 minutes from the well known Polaris parkway, home to every store you can think of including IKEA, Cabelas, and many other stores. The state park has miles of mountain bike trails, great paths for running, a dam with a beautiful view, beach/marina, and a laid back relaxing campground.
We have camped here numerous times. Sometimes with family, sometimes with friends
Cotopaxi questival
While participating in Questival part of the event was to camp overnight in the wilderness and complete outdoor challenges. Staying at Alum Creek State Park helped us to accomplish these tasks! Easy access to the park, facilities we're clean and we'll lit, would definitely camp here again, not just for #Questival
There is no camping here. It's a great place for a cookout, to go fishing and let the kids play on the playgrounds. Decent fishing in the spillway when the water gets let out.
Alum Creek State Park is one of those parks with the main attraction in the middle and the different areas strung out along the outside. So you need to be careful going from one area to the next, busy road. Old State Rd is the main thoroughfare through the area. Off Oh I71, take either Cheshire Rd or Rt 36 to Old State Rd and follow the signage.
Plenty of sites to pick from in the large camping area. I liked A due to the space between camp sites. I also drove through J enroute to a boat ramp and the sites there are a little closer together. There are cabins also available. Showerhouse centrally located in each area.
The sites are mostly level, with gravel area and picnic table. There was a playground, basketball court and nature center on site. There is a internal roadway if you like to bike ride or run and trails.
In another section of the park is the beach, there is a paddling only area (north end), plenty of fishing and boating left to enjoy, horse trails, bike trails and hiking trails.
The dog park is awesome, they have their own beach!
Less than 30 minutes north of Columbus and you are in a rustic area with LOTS to offer. Besides the camping there is a sail boat dock and horse riding trails. The lake is big enough to spend hours on! It is rarely crowed here. Makes for a great community!
