Best Cabin Camping near McCook, NE

Medicine Creek State Recreation Area and Prairie Dog State Park provide cabin accommodations within a reasonable drive from McCook, Nebraska. Both locations offer electric hookups for climate control during hot summer days and cold winter nights. Cabins at Prairie Dog State Park include picnic tables, and most feature water hookups suitable for basic washing needs. "The cabins are excellent for large RVs. Pull thru sites with full hookups overlooking Norton reservoir," notes one visitor. Medicine Creek cabins benefit from proximity to a swim beach and boat dock, allowing cabin guests convenient water access without roughing it in a tent.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. The cabins at Prairie Dog State Park offer a mix of amenities with some providing more furnished environments than others. Reservations are required for cabin accommodations at both locations, with Prairie Dog State Park featuring higher availability during weekdays. A camper wrote, "Camping for anyone arriving at anytime. Don't expect the best when arriving late, but most of you will have reservations, right? Then you will have the best." Both locations permit pets in cabin areas, allowing families to bring their dogs along for outdoor adventures.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary between properties, with some offering minimal cooking options while others provide more extensive setups. Showers are available at both Medicine Creek and Prairie Dog State Park, though bathroom cleanliness can vary seasonally. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, "Bathrooms need work or at least someone that cleans them at least daily. The park is nice but the bathrooms are embarrassing." General supplies and groceries are limited at the parks themselves, so cabin guests should plan to bring most provisions or purchase them in Cambridge or Norton before arrival.

    Oberlin Inn & RV Park

    Small but functional

Nice little spot in beautiful NW Kansas. Conveniently located on the intersection of Hwy 83 and Hwy 36. Like everyone in this town, the owners are helpful and friendly. Full hookups available in all (6 or 7 total) RV spots. Back in only in all but end spot, with relatively level gravel pads. There is a gazebo on site with seating, and a fire pit and barbecue. It's open for all guests, including motel guests. I give 4 stars because of 2 drawbacks. Hotel WiFi is hit and miss, and the RV spots are small. We couldn't put out our awning without invading the neighbors. But good value for the money ($30/night). I recommend. Oh and do yourself a favor, go downtown and get the best pizza ever at the ReLoad Bar and Grill.

    Medicine Creek State Rec Area

    Favorite Place in Nebraska

As avid outdoor lovers, fishermen and bow hunters this is our favorite place to be! The scenery is beautiful year round, wildlife is abundant and the park is so well kept and clean. The camp hosts, rangers, biologists are wonderful, friendly people! We love that the majority of the electrical sites are walk-up. Note: summertime is definitely busy time so plan ahead of you are staying through the weekend. Week day stays are much calmer and if you go before/after peak busy season, you will only have to share the entire park with a small handful of campers

Prairie Dog Campground — Prairie Dog State Park

    Ok, not too exciting

Super flat landscape, very short walking trail, main attraction is fishing, less wildlife than I expected. Quite a few campsites to choose from, some with more trees than others. We chose a primitive one. Also some new modern cabins. Ok place to stop over, I wouldn’t return but others seemed happy with it. And yes, you will definitely see prairie dogs :)

Prairie Dog Campground — Prairie Dog State Park

    A Pure Gem

Camping for anyone arriving at anytime. Don’t expect the best when arriving late, but most of you will have reservations, right? Then you will have the best. (Pause; Coyotes calling) this place has everything for any State Park you could ask. Expansive open grasslands a lake full of fish and fowl. Turkeys and whitetail deer and the coyotes call in the distance. A photographer could get lost in the pure wilderness available in the prairie. I’ve visited here during every season. The heat and bugs of mid July to the frozen autumn morings, always beautiful and teaming with wildlife. A great place to stay no matter your style. Just please be quiet, Mother Nature is listening.

Prairie Dog Campground — Prairie Dog State Park

    Pleasantly Surprised!

We stayed in Prairie Dog State Park for one night on our way back home from Colorado and were pleasantly surprised with what a nice park this was. We stayed in a primitive site. The sites were spacious and had a wonderful shelter! The vault toilet, however didnt look like it had been swept in awhile as it had a LOT of bug carcasses. But otherwise a nice place to stay. Something for everyone, tents, RVs, campers. Beautiful views!
