Sunset Hilltop Tent Retreat near Battle Lake
Description
Wake up to sweeping views over Stalker Lake and fall asleep under starry skies at this private hilltop tent site. Perched atop a wooded ridge on our 7.5-acre property, you’ll camp with panoramic lake vistas and a constant breeze – perfect for keeping you cool and bug-free. It’s a peaceful Minnesota tent camping escape where you can fish from our dock at dawn, paddle across glassy waters by day, and roast marshmallows by the campfire as the sun sets over the lake in the evening.
This site is all about experiencing nature with just the right touches of comfort. We provide a clean, regularly serviced porta-potty, a picnic table, and even a complimentary canoe with life jackets for you to explore the lake. Unwind on the sandy beach on the lake – shared only occasionally with us – or kick back in the Adirondack chairs we’ve set up by the water. Whether you’re floating in the lake, hitting the nearby hiking/biking trails, or simply relaxing by your tent to watch a spectacular sunset, you’ll find our hilltop retreat offers the best of Battle Lake camping: adventure by day and campfire serenity by night.
Unwind on the shores of Stalker Lake with unforgettable sunsets, great fishing, and laid-back lake vibes. Whether you’re paddling out in the provided canoe, floating under the sun, or relaxing by the firepit as the sky turns gold, this peaceful spot is perfect for recharging.
Our lakeside beach features a sandy area, shady trees, beach chairs, and a picnic table just steps from the water. A clean porta potty is located near the parking area. The beach is shared with the property owners and other guests (planned additional camp site in the future). Note: the beach and camping area are separated by Stalker Lake Road.
Canoe and life jackets (2) are included with your stay. Pontoon use is not included or available for rent. Dock space is available as an add-on.
You’re just one mile from Stalker Lake Golf Course & Bar and close to local gems like Glendalough State Park and the charming town of Battle Lake.
Amenities
-
Tent Site & Furniture: The hilltop clearing accommodates up to 2 large tents (bring your own). A picnic table and fire ring are provided on the site. We’ve also placed a couple of camp chairs at the beachfront fire pit down by the lake – a great spot for evening s’mores.
-
Water & Bathroom: No potable water on site – please bring a sufficient drinking water supply. Many guests fill jugs in town or we can provide some for you—see add-ons. We do have a very clean porta-potty near the parking area for your use, serviced regularly by a professional (it even has a solar light for night!).
-
Campfires: Firewood is available for purchase (see add-ons) or bring your own. There is a fire ring both at the site and by the beach. Please keep fires in rings and fully extinguish before leaving or sleeping. (Campfires may be restricted during any county burn bans – we’ll notify you in advance.)
-
Cooking & Dining: The picnic table at the site is perfect for meals with a view. We also have a lakeside picnic table if you want to lunch by the water. Remember to pack cooking essentials and gear.
-
Canoe & Gear: Enjoy our complimentary canoe! Two adult life jackets and paddles are provided so you can explore Stalker Lake’s shoreline. (Please return the canoe after use.) You’re welcome to bring your own kayak or fishing boat; the public boat launch is just 0.25 miles down the road for easy lake access. We also have two stand-up paddleboards available for rent. Dock space also available as an add-on.

**Other Amenities:**Off-leash dog friendly – well-behaved pets can romp free (we’re dog lovers). There’s plenty of shade as the site is surrounded by mature trees, plus that lovely hilltop breeze. We do not have showers or electricity at the site, so plan to unplug (devices can be charged at outlet near porta potty). Cell service is decent for most major carriers here, in case you need it.
Missing something? We’ve tried to think of everything, but if an amenity or info you expect isn’t here, just ask! We’re continually improving (future plans include a second site and maybe a water hook-up). Our goal is to provide you a fun, safe, and memorable camping experience.
Activities
On-site, there’s plenty to keep nature lovers happy. Fishing is excellent – cast right off our dock and you might catch bass or sunfish. Feel free to launch the canoe for a paddle or bring floats to enjoy the lake. The swimming area by the beach has a gentle sandy bottom and stays shallow quite far out, ideal for wading or for kids to splash around (always supervise children by the water)..
In the evenings, gather around either the hilltop fire ring or the beach fire pit to watch breathtaking sunsets across the water. The hilltop’s west-facing view means every night can end with a brilliant show of colors. Star-gazing is fantastic here too – with little to no light pollution, you’ll see the Milky Way on clear nights.
Nearby adventures abound as well. We’re only 15 minutes from the entrance of Glendalough State Park, a local gem for hiking and biking (the park also rents kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes). The paved Glendalough Trail actually starts in Battle Lake, offering a scenic 12-mile loop through prairie and woods – bring your bikes or we can recommend a local rental. Battle Lake town is just 10 miles away, where you can grab an ice cream, browse shops, or visit the art gallery. Golfers will love that Stalker Lake Golf Course & Grill is only a mile from our driveway – perfect for a quick round or a burger and beer on the patio. For more ideas, see our attractions list below – we’re surrounded by lakes, trails, and quaint towns to explore. Whether you spend your day on the water, on the trails, or relaxing at camp, you’ll have plenty to do and the ideal base to do it.
**Getting There (Arrival Instructions?) **
Our campsite is easy to reach but please note a short, steep climb: we’re located about 15 minutes from downtown Battle Lake in Otter Tail County. You’ll turn off Stalker Lake Road into our driveway (detailed directions provided after booking). Parking is available in a designated spot at the bottom of the hill, about 250 feet from the site. From there, a steep but short footpath leads up to the hilltop clearing – we’ve marked it with a “Site #2” sign on a tree. We provide a utility cart to haul your gear up the trail, so getting in is part of the adventure but totally doable. Check-in is after 2:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM to give us time to maintain the site between guests. We’re happy to greet you and help with gear on arrival if we’re available – just let us know.
Rules
We want all our guests (and our neighbors) to have a great experience. Please observe quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM – sound carries at the hilltop, and while we’re on a spacious property, there are a few neighbors on the far side of the woods. This ensures everyone (including the wildlife) gets a peaceful night. Pets are welcome off-leash under your supervision; just ensure they remain on our property and are under voice control (and please clean up after them). Campfires are allowed only in the fire rings. Never leave fires unattended and fully douse them before sleeping or checkout. If a fire ban is announced, we will let you know and ask that no campfires or open flames are used. Trash: This is a pack-in/pack-out site – please take all garbage with you when you leave. We strive to leave the land as pristine as we can, and your help is appreciated. Finally, check-out is by 11:00 AM so we have time to clean for the next camper (late departures can sometimes be arranged – just ask!). If you have any questions about these rules or need anything during your stay, we’re just a text or call away and happy to help. Enjoy your stay and thank you for treating our place with care!
