We had an all around great time. The campsites were all pretty secluded. We got there around 10am on a Friday and there were a couple sites taken but the rest were up for grabs. (I believe there was 22 sites total) Out of 22 sites I’d say about 14-16 sites eventually got filled up as the park is first come first serve. Lake was clean. The road to the park had water access to the river as well. Lots of ATV and Hiking trails.
Well maintained campsites. All have fire rings and most have cooking grates. There are 2 bathrooms (outhouses) that were well stacked with toilet paper. Lake had a pull up area for boat launch or canoe. Excellent place!!!
This campground was great. The sites were big and felt fairly secluded. We had a great time here
There is about 6 miles of dirt road back to this campground, but it is a decent dirt road and my trailer was in good shape inside when we arrived. There are two loops (we only discovered the second one on our second day lol) with about 25 campsites total. No electric, water is available from pump and there are pit toilets. The campsites are private and quiet, especially in the first loop, which you enter through. We enjoyed the sense of camping 'away from it all' although it is a bit shady for solar panels to charge up the batteries. There are ATV trails along the dirt road on your way in, if that is your thing. We saw the ranger 1x, but the campground appears to be watched over, although not super closely. We enjoyed our stay here and would return. Also: Verizon Wireless signal 2 bars in many places.
Our campsite was a little cramped, the canopy from the camper was almost directly over the fire pit, but it was surrounded by trees and very private and quiet! The bathroom and showers were really nice. This park has miles and miles of great hiking and biking trails. We biked from the campground to Lake Clayton and even saw a bear on our ride! We rented canoes from the park and did the four hour canoe ride down the st Croix river which was super fun, I definitely recommend doing that. We also hiked along the kettle river to where it meets with the st Croix river and that was a cool hike
Lots of room within the campground, beautiful hiking trails. Nice overlooks and hilly terrain to walk. The river is so peaceful here, so remember to bring bug spray cause you will need it.
There are some great secluded spots and the campground is always empty. It is definitely more primitive with pit toilets and hand pump wells.
My only complaint was how bad the mosquitos were... but it's Minnesota.
The St Croix is beautiful
Beautiful area, very clean and easy to get to. Clean facilities nice trails and boat launches. They ran out of fire wood so get there early! I'd def cons back here!
