Mile 38.2 - Hiker-biker campgrounds are located along the towpath approximately every 5-7 miles. No fee or reservation required. Overnight stays are limited to one night. All sites include a chemical toilet, picnic table, grill, and water. Please Note: Water at hiker-biker campsites is non-potable. Water is not treated and not for drinking or cooking. If you use this water, you are advised to filter, chemically treat, or boil before use. Water is turned off from mid-November to mid-April each year.

Marble Quarry Hiker-biker Overnight Campsite — Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park

The hiker/biker campgrounds along the C&amp;O Towpath run the gamut from good to great. Some are inspirational locations tucked away on a quiet bend in the river, others just meet the basic need of being flat enough to pitch a tent. Marble Quarry is a classic example of what most camping spots along the trail look like; while representing the average, it remains special. Take the short path to the river to find a bit more solitude from the bustling trail, or set up a hammock underneath the giant Sycamores here. 

  

This  campsite has ample space for a dozen tents, though only 1 table, fire ring and port-o-potty. When we visited, the pump handle was still on and the water was fine. All the well NPS pumps have been treated with iodine so they leave something to be desired in terms of taste, but it's completely fine for hydration. The biggest plus of this campsite is that there is absolutely no train, so we slept very well and made a hearty breakfast for a long day ahead of us.

  

The closest service for food and beverage is the restaurant/ convenience store at White's Landing a mere 2.4 miles downstream. They have really good sandwiches, but the selection of grocery items was pretty small, mostly snack items.
