Not really a resort campground, but still nice enough

Kenlake State Resort Park is very nice, but the campground is kind of forgotten on the other side of the 68/80 bypass. First be aware there are several seasonal campers who pretty much feel like they own the place, so their children's running around on golf carts, bicycles and walking through your camp to get to the "trail" between the two sides of the campground may make you uncomfortable. Second, in August the State park hosts Hot August Blues, so the campground will be booked solid well in advance for that weekend. Third, it is a nice campground, well kept, with amenities and it is located next to Kentucky Lake, and not really too far from some moderately large cities like Murray or Benton. There are no major retailers nearby, except the local convenience stores and the ever infamous Dollar General.  Belew's Dairy Dip is also nearby, a few Mom & Pop restaurants, and "antique" general store that has the largest ever selection of soda pops, and that is about it. My experience with the restaurant at the state park did not improve any from last year's visit, so I don't know that I'll return.  The amenities you expect (bath house, hook ups) are here though, so if you want to be close to Land Between the Lakes, hiking, fishing or just being out doors, this is a good and affordable option. Next door is some historic areas with signage to guide you and explain the significance of the original park (see the photo of the historical marker).

Stop 1, Caravan across Ky

I love State Parks, but as has been the norm in recent years due to funding cuts, Kenlake has declined in its appeal.

The camp ground is split away from the actual park by 68/80, a four lane highway, and there are zero direction signs telling you to turn toward Aurora instead of into the park. The "check in" was quick, but there is no fire wood available, no ice available, there is nothing, but, "a Dollar General about a mile or so up the road has everything." So does "Walmart" 15 miles down the road. Water and electric hook-ups are at least 50 plus feet from your pad, so bring extra power cords and water hoses! Most pads decline toward the lake, so secure chock blocks are a must, and pads have a 3- 18 inch drop off around the edges... ankles beware! And the children on golf carts nearly running us over most of the day & night, then their angry parents.... thankfully the Park's Law Enforcement was very professional, but overworked. Land Between the Lakes is also very close, and convenient for hiking, geocashing, and structured outdoor attractions.

If traveling through Kentucky Ken Lake State Park is a good place to stop

We were on a cross-country trip headed back to Georgia.  This was our last night before arriving home.  The camping space we were assigned was wonderful, right on the water with a cute little deck attached.  Unfortunately, our neighbor had taken the 30 AMP hook-up and we did not have a 50 AMP line so we had to move away from the water.  No big deal as we were only there for the night. The spaces were a nice distance apart.  This is a very old campground so it does need some TLC.  The bathroom was clean but very old.  We did not get to explore that park at all but it was on a beautiful lake and a lot of campers were having fun.

Modest, easy to get to.

Nothing fancy here. Pull off the highway and here it is. Older facilities but very clean.

Pretty close to other conveniences so it's br good for kids to get away without getting too far away.

Waterfront

Big RVers probably should stay away when this campground is full. We watched a fifth wheel almost get stuck on their way out. Sites are shallow but wider. Some sides further from the water can house the big rigs but most of these sites are for smaller campers and tents. Contains a shower house, sewer, water, electric, and some great views.

This campground is all about location as it is right along the river and central location for hiking and adventuring. Most certainly will be back as we only stayed one night on our way back home.

Older campground but still has all you need

We've camped here a couple of times. Lake is nice but some of the sites on the lake are steep. The spot was clean and had a nice picnic table and fire pit.

Electric hook up a bit far from camper. Needed to buy extension for 30-50 amp hookup.

Level? Not so much. Unless you are a master truck driver, and pull a trailer less than 24', you are in trouble backing into most sites. Pray your neighbor moves his/her vehicle for you. Bathhouse needs a total gut job, and more attentive personnel on busy weekends. Area around the campground is great with lots of activities.

Beautiful place

The campsites that are close to the lake are pretty unlevel (we were told they will be fixed this upcoming winter). Some sites have decks which is pretty cool. You can see the lake, but have to drive to a nearby ramp to put your boat in the water. The campground was clean. The bath house is older, but fairly clean.

Great camping if you don’t use the bath house

I’m 45, and I loved this campground when I was a girl. They have a small, but good playground for the kids, and excellent activities either at the campground or the resort, about a mile away. The spots are great too. There are some that the person next door is right on top of you.

The real problem, is the bath house. It’s very small and old. It was better when the women’s side was on the opposite end, but there were complaints about only 2 showers, so they switched them. Now the showers are so small (and nasty) I don’t like being in them.

Awesome place!

Very friendly staff, and it is very peaceful when you go after or before the holidays. The sites with the decks have amazing views of Kentucky Lake, and there is a trail just south east of the camping area that leads down to the water for easy access for canoes or kayaks. The campgrounds are mowed very well too!

Kenlake State Park

Located near a small touristy town, Kenlake State Park is a Resort state park, affording all the luxury of full hookups as well as more primitive campsites. Offering a boat dock, activity areas, plenty of shaded areas, hiking trails, along with all the amenities expected at a resort, Kenlake really sports more of a Glamping attitude than a camping attitude.

Upscale in the woods

More for the uppity crowd, not into roughing it while camping :) Nice well kept resort type area. Hot August Blues is one of the festivals held here that usually draws a crowd. Water sports galore and plenty else to do in the area. Staff friendly and knowledgable, facilities nice.

Resort camping

Golf course, marina, and sports facilities make this a resort more than a park. Personal preference is for a site with more nature explore, but this is a very nice and well-kept park that does what it aims to do very well. The park across the river, Land Between the Lakes, is exceptional for hiking trails and nature.
