Horseman's Park in Sand Ridge State Forest provides equestrian campsites with tie-up posts and picnic tables at each site. The campground features one loop with inner ring sites arranged in a group-like configuration, while outer ring sites offer more privacy against the woods. Vault toilets and garbage receptacles are located throughout the camping area, with designated spots for manure disposal. The campground primarily serves trail riders, with most sites having shade. Questing Hills Equestrian Campground at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area offers 51 electric sites for horse camping. This equestrian loop includes its own shower house with three showers and three bathroom stalls, plus vault toilets located at strategic points throughout the camping area. Most sites have partial shade, hitching rails and electricity, though water access is distributed throughout the park rather than at individual sites. The camping areas are always well-maintained.
Trails at Sand Ridge State Forest are accessible to horses from the campground, with the longest route stretching nearly 15 miles. Most trails in this natural area accommodate horses, with clear directional signposts marking the paths. The terrain consists of sandy trails through predominantly pine forest areas—watch for cacti along some sections. Yellow Loop offers steep hills of sand that effectively tire energetic horses according to park staff. Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area maintains over 26 miles of well-marked and maintained trails for horseback riding. Both campgrounds have space for day-use riders to park their horse trailers, with Sand Ridge featuring a dedicated area across the road from the main campground. Hikers and hunters also use these trail systems, so riders should remain alert for other recreational users while on the trails.
