Nice but buggy in July

Stayed in spot 18 which was close to vault toilets, but they were stinky and full of bugs. Very buggy in general, not all are mosquitos but there are some of those too. Sites 1, 2, 4, 18, 21, 23 were all decent looking with some shade in the afternoon and relatively level pads. Lakes in area, one adjacent to campground and one that is down a trail to a day use area that is covered by the camp fee. Good spacing between sites. Some have electric. A little warm for July, probably 80 degrees in afternoon. Lots of aspen trees in the area might be good for a fall visit. Bear cans available for trash.

Grand Mesa Gem

Wonderful campground w roughly 20 campsites. They’re positioned a little close together for my liking but, the immediate access to two beautiful lakes, endless hiking and mountain biking trails more than made up for the close proximity to other campers. I would give this place a 5 star rating if it was not for the horrible smelling bathrooms. They were clean but the ammonia odor was too heavy to even use. We saw bald eagles, caught tons of rainbow trout, and even had a medium size bear come through a couple of times, who was never threatening, but looked like it was traveling along a set path to the next trout breakfast.

Great Campground

Near multiple fishing lakes, hiking trails and just down the road from a national recreation trail.  Quiet and very clean.  Love the walk up tent sites up on the hill.  Gives opportunity to site on the hillside for breakfast while watching the fishing in the lake in front of the campground.  Great place for a weekend getaway

RV Camping on North Side of Grand Mesa

This is a beautiful small hosted Forest Service campground just off Colorado Hwy 65 (Grand Mesa National Scenic and Historic Byway) in the Grand Mesa National Forest https://bit.ly/3iywM8z. A few electric sites are available, no sewer or water hookups, no groceries or gas nearby - town of Mesa approx 15 mi north. Near multiple lakes with day-use fishing and hand powered boating (permit included with camping). Also, nearby ATV and OHV trails (no ATV/OHV from campsites).

Lots of trees, lakes and fishing

This campground has lots of very large pine trees with plenty of aspen thrown in for good measure. The campsites are large and feel private. During our visit the camp hosts were very nice and helpful. The campground sells firewood at $7/bundle, and they were actually pretty large bundles. Jumbo is set at at the park for Mesa Lakes. There are multiple little lakes, walking paths and hiking trails. This is also one of my favorite places to snowshoe in the winter. A nice and short hike will take you to Lost Lake that is generally secluded and a nice place for quiet nature reflection.

Down the road from the cg is a lodge where you can buy ice but know it is expensive and very “light” 10 lb bags. At the same lodge you can treat yourself to ice cream or basic restaurant foods with a full bar and a gorgeous view of one of the many lakes on the Mesa. Further down the road is the Grand Mesa visitor center staffed with rangers and information about the Mesa, fishing, hiking and natural resources. This area of Colorado also has many wineries and cideries, so if you are here for a few days try to stop by a few and take home some local beverages.

So beautiful and tranquil

The Grand Mesa is beautiful. Good separation between campspot. Lots of big RVs but lots of trees to make each spot feel cozy. Great fishing at the lakes.
