The section house is located at the summit of Boreas Pass and in the late 1800s and early 1900s served as the main building for the Denver, South Pacific, and Pacific Railroad when it made its way over the pass. This area was the site of the highest narrow guage railroad in the United States. During the period between 1870 and 1920, a town of 150 people existed at Boreas Pass helping to maintain the railroad and the trains that passed by. Today the Section House is restored to its former glory. Visitors may see what life was like in such an unforgiving environment. This campsite is right in Breckenridge, Colorado. The drive itself is breathtaking. There are many campsites along the road with a fire ring. Majority of the sites are far enough away from one another so you can be secluded if you would like. I only have front wheel drive and the road isn’t paved (gravel) but I had no problems. Most sites you can have your car right next to your spot as well which I prefer you can also park RVs in some areas as there are pull offs on the side of the road. You are able to stay up to 14 nights as well. And the best part is that this road is all free camping! No cell service past a certain point.

Very quiet and clean with a nice scenic commute to any spot. 

Just outside of Breckenridge is this beautiful pass that heads all the way down to fairplay if you wanted to continue driving. the pass goes through the national forest so dispersed camping is available all along the road. The spot we found was small but had the best view of the town and the 14ers beyond. you could really only fit one tent here safely. This spot is only a few yards off the pass and we did have a reasonable amount of traffic. The area is also dusty and the site appeared to be covered in ash from previous fires. This was mostly fine except all of our gear did come home with a layer of gray dust on it. all in all there is a wide variety of sites on the pass with impeccable views. You are somewhere in the neighborhood of 11,000 feet so pack for wind. we hope to go back in the fall for the folliage!!
