Campground has no water and no service. When Highway 4 is closed, no access is possible. Large, open area with scattered timber and rock outcrops. North Fork Mokelumne River nearby. Campsites are available in lower Hermit Valley as well as at the upper (NE) end of Hermit Valley, at Grouse Flat. Near Mosquito Lakes
Dispersed camping, with several campsites available. Historically this was the location of a pack station supplying goods to the silver mines over the pass. Many opportunities for fishing and hiking here. It is rustic, with no freshwater or garbage service. Located in the Stanislaus National Forest.
The drive here is wonderful. There didn't seem to be to many sites. It was very basic with toilets. It was very quiet here and way different than the other camp grounds in the park..which i love. I would always rather there be less people and noise and be able to appreciate the serenity.
Its first come first serve. We arrived on a thursday and fortunately got the last site that was available. Perfect for us. There hiking, biking, fishing, and all around wonderful scenery in Kings canyon and Sequoia NP. Loved it.
Got to see great big Sequoia trees in Calvaras big trees State Park and then camped for Free in the Stanislaus National Forest. It's right off the road but if you need a place to stay and don't mind no amenities it's great
