No view but open spaces

Stopped here after the places I usually go were full, got in on a Saturday night was able to find a large spot without too many people around very easily, big open space, tight walkable forest road, no views but quiet and private with very nice camp hosts, will probably end up back here again

Keep going down the dirt road!

We got here on a Saturday afternoon, a bit concerned we wouldn’t find a spot. Everything was full close to the rim. We turned onto FR 66 off of 300 and just kept driving, until we found a spot!

We were in eyes view of both campsites on either side, but not too close. If you are looking for a campsite that is beautiful & peaceful, yet okay with being decently close to neighbors… This spot is a great option.

PS We had no cell service on 300 once it became a gravel road & FR 66. Make sure to bring a map if you are driving this far down the road.

Our go-to spot

We love to camp at the Mogollon Rim! There are plenty of sites to camp in, but it does fill up quick on the weekends. By Sunday afternoon, almost everyone is gone.

When you first come in there are sites closer to the rim, but these tend to fill up faster than the others. If you drive further back into the woods, there are more options but no rim view. There are also hiking trails as well such as the Carr Lake trail, Military Sinkhole, Rim Top trail and a few more.

We camp off road 169; there are large group sites with a good amount of space in between. You can usually see the other people, but can't really hear them (unless they're loud campers). The road in is pretty good but does get rocky at some points if you turn off the main road 300.

I've taken a Hyundai Accent, but recommend a higher clearance vehicle if possible. Just go slow at certain points if you go down 169.

ALSO, please pick up after your stay!!!! One of our main sites was severely littered and it's sad to see that. I ended up with an entire bag full of other peoples' trash. Let's work together and maintain our beautiful forests. :)

Large Sites - Really Dusty

I camped here with my two dogs at the end September. I wanted to get a spot on the rim but it was full. Actually everything was really full. I'm glad I came up on a Friday afternoon otherwise I'm not sure where I wouldn't have gotten a site. The sites are large and fairly wooded. But super dusty. I planned on staying 3 nights but on Sunday afternoon almost everyone was gone. I couldn't see another camper from my site. Then a bit before dusk some guy stopped by to ask me for an air pump. Being a single woman (but with two dogs) it made me uncomfortable. Better safe than sorry. Packed it up and went home to take a much needed shower. It's a great location for visit the local lakes. I went to both Bear and Knoll lake in my Prius. (-:

Good Site

Good place with plenty of space in between each site. Some nice meadows and got to see a few elk when we first arrived. Close to all the lakes and relatively quiet. Some ATV traffic but nothing crazy. Would definitely go back.
