Tenderfoot Campground
Good spot. We were let in as a courtesy as one of the guest had canceled last minute. Restrooms were clean, campsites big enough with tables and large fire pit/grill.

The roads were paved okay, the sites are more gravel. It was a (narrow) but 30 second walk to the private lake access we had. The campsite overall was the biggest one we’ve been in. The flys were so awful, the mosquitos seemed invisible. The lake is clean and amazing, there was road noise but didn’t bother us, we’re loud anyway. It was so beautiful. But the bathrooms were useable. If you try to get food at summit lake lodge, don’t, they suck and are overpriced. Maybe French fries and onion rings but nothing else.

We spent 4 nights in Tenderfoot Campground just on the other side of Summit Lake. It is hidden but located at the base of a tall mountain that would be in avalanche danger if snow were in season. This camp is closed in winter. Our site was a first come, first serve site but it was the perfect pull-through for our campervan! It was a site walk to the bathroom, water pump was located across the street, and you had plenty of space for spreading out. You can hear the creek close by as it was flowing rapidly from snow melt high up on the mountain. It was perfectly located on a hill, equidistant from Soldotna, Seward, and Anchorage, and the mosquitoes left us alone as opposed to the ones on the loop as you come in closer to the lake. My favorite site in the Kenai Peninsula ! Not much cell service out here in these woods.

This campground sits right on a lake. Drop a kayak...very nice, clean, excellent sites. However, the noise from Seward highway echoes off the mountains so it's a bit noisy for a tent camper but very nice otherwise.

This is a really different campground. Built on the side of a mountain it has some strange campsites. Its close proximity to Summit Lake and lake access earned it 4 stars. Really great place to take a kayak. If it was not for the water aspect it would have only gotten a 3 star review. Some of the sites have the picnic tables at a higher elevation than the parking pad. If you have accessibility issues this is something you will want to watch out for. There are lots of bugs so bring you bug dope. The spots are large so you can fit a big rig in them however the campground is a bit tight so you will have to watch the turning of these bigger rigs. Cell Service: no Internet: no 2020 Cost: $18 - $28 Distance from Anchorage: 75 miles Bug Factor (1 minimal to 10 too many to enjoy): 6

We stayed here early summer season just after the ice had melted. The large fire pit was perfect for the chilly nights. We stayed on one of the "corner" spots and had tons of room to let the dog play without bothering other campers or hitting the tent. The lake is beautiful and the bathroom clean.

This campground located on Summit Lake may not have hookups but the views and the fishing are worth it. $18 a night, with 35 sites to choose from. Our favorites are #1, 6, 8 10-12 due to water access. #24 is a beautiful mountain view pull through. The o ly downside as that most sites have picnic table and firepit behind the site and with a ramp up to them. Vault toilets, boat ramp, and drinking water all available. Tent sites with pads are over a quaint foot bridge to allow some separation from the road.

My boyfriend and I wanted to camp here so we could do a day hike down the Summit Creek trail which is right down the road. We got to the campsite at around 11am, paid, and went to our site. It was really nice - had a good fire pit, nice big wood picnic table and a bear locker, and also a bathroom for people to use. Was on a gravel pit. Later that day at around 11pm we were luckily still awake by the campfire when the campground host came and accused us of being there without paying. We showed her our site permit and we all walked down to show her where he put the envelope with the money. She was VERY rude, and made us pay again. About 30 minutes later (luckily, we were still awake around midnight now) and she found the original amount we paid and she reimbursed us (BUT she shorted us $2), she said it was stuck to someone else's. The campsite was very nice but after the campground host accused us of "stealing the site" we will not be returning, there are plenty of other good campgrounds in that area we would prefer to give our business to.
