Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Devils Tower KOA

Great amenities just not for us

Great little campground close to the monument. All the modern amenities. They also offer cabin rentals which is nice if you dont want to bring all your gear or weather the elements. Personally we prefer a more rustic state/national park style campground. Next time we visit devils tower we'll be making the short drive from Custer.

    Devils Tower KOA

    Devil's Tower KOA

Devil's Tower KOA has an incredible view and is adjacent to the Devil's Tower National Monument Entrance.

Lovely KOA with all the KOA amenities, one bathroom/showerhouse in great shape and the other under renovation. They have a pool and playground and of course had a showing of 'Close Encounters'. The camping cabin we stayed in was clean and comfortable with AC and heat available. The view of the tower from the cabin was stunning.

I was very impressed with the trees and space between sites in this KOA - quarters were not as tight as we sometimes see. An excellent KOA.

The Devil's Tower area is a beautiful lanscape, with deep native roots. When in the area please respect it and learn about the stories and traditions of its caretakers.

Tatanka Campground — Keyhole State Park

    Beautiful Park!

Loved this park, the bay was very peaceful.   Most sites have water and electric.   There is a dump station at the front of the park.  Spaces have cement picnic tables and fire pits, but due to high risk, fires were not allowed while we were there.  Good spacing between sites and bathrooms through out.  Central shower house may be a distance from your site.  Our site was not very level, but we were able to manage.   There are some cabins also.

Tatanka Campground — Keyhole State Park

    Fun lake

There is fun lake for families and friends of all ages about 5 minutes away. Rocks to jump off, live music and boats are allowed. The campground had nice space, fire rings and picnic tables. Fun campgrounds keepers and a pretty river to watch the sun go down on!

    Devils Tower KOA

    Great View

Great KOA at the edge of the park. No a/c in the cabins. Plenty of souvenirs, a nightly movie and a great view of the Wyoming hills. Price is reflective of them having the only campground around.

    Devils Tower KOA

Conveinent location with an up and close view!

The location is at the foot of Devils Tower. The cabins are clean and a showerhouse with laundry services is provided. They also have a post office, dinner, two stores, and a convenience store across the street.

Tatanka Campground — Keyhole State Park

    This place is fine.

Pros: most of the spots have some shade and an awesome cement picnic table. They’re also spaced far enough apart that each one has privacy. Pat’s point has a nice trail where you can sit and watch the sunset. During the week things are quiet.

Cons: while the showers were nice, 2 of the 4 were locked the entire week. The change machine was consistently out of order. No one kept their dogs on leashes despite the posted signs. Our first night a couple had a loud, drunken argument, ending with the wife telling her child (maybe 7) to F*** off. The camp host didn’t really do anything about noise or when cars were parked blocking the road.

    Devils Tower KOA

Great KOA campground, so close to Devils Tower

So far this is our best KOA experience, though I'm taking off 1 star because the mingolf experience, which looks like a great one, was closed for renovation during peak season which seems inexcusable. Great views of the tower, numerous shade options, working hookups. Our power actually had the polarity reversed, but it worked fine. The dump station had a somewhat odd placement requiring me to drive around reverse of the campsite order to get on the right side, but that seems somewhat usual apparently. Also during rain the dump site was flooded, so make sure you have good gloves! It still worked under the flood waters.

Store was interesting with some great items to pickup, ice cream, and decent food, though during the uptick of delta covid-19 in wyoming nobody was wearing masks or distancing.

2 great playgrounds for the kids!

Guide to Gillette

Cabin accommodations near Gillette, Wyoming provide shelter options for visitors exploring the northeastern Wyoming landscape. Located primarily in the public lands surrounding Gillette, these cabins offer alternatives to tent camping in an area that experiences temperature extremes and occasional strong winds. Seasonal availability varies, with most cabin rentals operating from late spring through early fall when roads remain accessible.

What to do

Outdoor movies at twilight: At Devils Tower KOA, guests can watch "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" screened outdoors. "They show 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' every night, outside with the tower in the background. Very cheesy but very cool," notes Julie W.

Sunset viewing: Pat's Point at Tatanka Campground offers dedicated sunset viewing areas. "Pat's point has a nice trail where you can sit and watch the sunset," reports Whistle P., who appreciated this quieter weekday activity.

Stargazing opportunities: The clear Wyoming skies provide exceptional celestial viewing from cabin sites. Joshua T. remarked about Devils Tower KOA: "Beautiful view of Devils Tower, nice campground, nice amenities. Enjoyed our time here! Even was able to see the comet!"

Water recreation: Keyhole State Park cabins provide access to water activities. "There is fun lake for families and friends of all ages about 5 minutes away. Rocks to jump off, live music and boats are allowed," writes Tyler M. about the recreational options near Tatanka Campground.

What campers like

Proximity to attractions: Cabins positioned near notable landmarks reduce travel time. "If you came to see Devils Tower this is the place to stay. It was at the gate to the park, had great views," shares Julie W. about staying at Devils Tower KOA.

Morning views: Waking up to scenic vistas ranks high among visitor preferences. Nick M. describes the experience at Arch Rock Campground: "We were right by the water and it was beautiful! We would come back."

Site spacing: Adequate distance between cabin units provides privacy. At Tatanka Campground, Kimberly E. appreciated that sites were "quiet and spacious," adding that "birds chirping in the morning was a fabulous way to wake up in this beautiful area."

On-site amenities: Additional facilities enhance the cabin camping experience. Douglas S. noted that Devils Tower KOA offers "a pool, miniature golf, dog runs, laundry, an honest to goodness General Store and a cafe. The facility also offers hayrides."

What you should know

Non-resident fees: Wyoming state parks charge significantly more for out-of-state visitors. Mike C. warns about Tatanka Campground: "Wyoming state parks seem to be hostile to non residents. It's cheaper to stay at a regular rv park and you have better amenities. You can only reserve online. Online reservation fee $8. Fee for electric site $18. Electric fee additional $10. Non resident fee $12."

Seasonal closures: Most cabin facilities operate on limited schedules. Devils Tower KOA operates from mid-May through mid-October, with shoulder seasons subject to limited services.

Variable occupancy: Even with reservations, campground capacity fluctuates seasonally. Billie B. observed Devils Tower KOA was "VERY busy. Lots of families and off road vehicles (although it was holiday weekend, but I imagine this place stays busy)."

Fire restrictions: Cabin campers should check current fire regulations. Debra M. notes about Tatanka Campground: "Spaces have cement picnic tables and fire pits, but due to high risk, fires were not allowed while we were there."

Tips for camping with families

Site selection for lake access: Specific cabin locations offer better water accessibility. Kristen and Billy P. recommend: "Cottonwood campsites are nice. Close walk to lake shore to play, fish or paddle board. #19 or #18 are our favorites. Especially on the 4th of July for fireworks."

Shower availability: Facilities may be limited during busy periods. One camper at Tatanka Campground reported: "While the showers were nice, 2 of the 4 were locked the entire week. The change machine was consistently out of order."

Noise considerations: Weekend stays tend to be louder than weekday visits. Whistle P. notes about Tatanka: "During the week things are quiet," but reported noise issues on weekends, including "a loud, drunken argument" with no intervention from staff.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: RV pads at some locations require additional equipment. Kimberly E. mentions about Tatanka Campground: "Most rv sites are on a little of a hill but level enough."

Utility connections: Check specific hookup availability when booking. Debra M. confirms Tatanka accommodations: "Most sites have water and electric. There is a dump station at the front of the park."

Space for larger vehicles: Several locations accommodate bigger rigs. Kevin A. notes about Devils Tower KOA: "Lots of sites all with pretty great views of the monument itself. Would stay again."
