Nice & Clean
We were here for 19 days. We had a nice time here. The work campers are all so nice, They keep busy everyday! We felt that the food was great and so convenient. We had breakfast here many mornings and pizza and wings a few times. The live bands were a nice touch! I ended up having a terrible stomach pain, back pain and went to the ER in Rapid City 6 days after we arrived, ended up having my gallbladder removed at Monument Hospital. Heartland was a nice safe quiet place for me to recover. We have a 5th wheel, 40 foot and we fit perfectly in our pull thru. Road noise was there, however, they cannot control that. Rapid City is a quick drive, lots of shopping and dining available. We were able to go to Needles Highway, the wildlife loop and Iron Mountain Road before I got sick. After my surgery (6 days later) we were able to drive to Keystone and Hill City. Both fun little towns. Hermosa is very close. Has a nice chicken restaurant next to a nice antique / gift shop and has a drive in theater. We were not able to enjoy the theater tho. This campground is at a great location for a base camp! We would stay here again.
Frist Rate RV Park but Poor Spacing and Highway Noise
Sam wrote a great review on 5/20/22 which I agree with. I visited just after the 4th of July and the construction was apparently complete. What keeps this from being a 5 are the size of the sites and the proximity to the highway 79. The sites are smallest I have been to and there is absolutely no privacy. I had to wear earplugs at night to be able to sleep at night. The park is huge with 229 sites. They have a staff of 30 to run the thing. All of the staff members were really great. The small restaurant with limited menu and a bar is a big plus. They are located in the Event Center which hosts live music on many evenings. They had a free wine tasting of local wines most of which are made from berries instead of grapes because of the environment. I give the bathrooms an A. I apologize for not including photos of the campground but had a family emergency come up an totally forgot to do this before I left. I was able to visit Wind Caves NP and Custer State Park(A Must), and Rushmore with Heartland as the basecamp.

Heartland RV Park
We stayed at Heartland RV Park for a week. We stayed in our 34 foot trailer in a “large RV site.” The sites are sort of close together, but we’ve stayed in parks where you’re much closer. You get a nice grass strip with a fire ring. Most sites have one small tree. This park is extremely well-maintained. The grounds, sites and bathroom/shower/laundry facilities were immaculate. We stayed on a row where there was additional parking which was very nice. There is a nice children’s playground area which is fenced in. There is a store on-site with ice, propane, beer, wine, snacks…a little of everything. There is breakfast and dinner available on-site, and they will deliver it right to you! We had both breakfast and dinner while we were there. They serve Hunts Brothers pizza and wings for dinner which was nothing too special but it wasn’t bad. Breakfast was way better than dinner. There are 20 or so cable TV channels available. All of the park staff we encountered were very friendly.
As far as the cons of this park, and the main reason I rated it down a star: the noise. This park is situated right on a four-lane highway. We were almost as far from the highway as was possible and the highway noise is unreal. I can’t imagine being in the cabins or the row of sites next to the highway. There is no barrier, no trees, no fence, nothing, between you and the highway. Consider this when booking.
In addition to noise from the highway, there was the constant noise of work in the park. They were constructing some sort of building in the northeast corner while we were there, so there was construction noise. They were also constantly (I am not exaggerating here) mowing, weed whacking, or grading the road while we were there. We were awoken at 0800 one morning to the road grader in action. They also employed the use of an enormous water truck to water the grass in the sites. So I guess what I’m saying is this is not the park to visit if you’re looking for quiet. You will not find it here.
We did have two instances where the shower had no hot water. We were right next to a wifi repeater but had consistent connection issues so we couldn’t use the park wifi.
That being said, we would absolutely return to this park. Excellent hospitality and amenities, and centrally located to a lot of great sights.
PROS: Beautifully maintained On-site store with hot food delivered to your door Clean Children’s play area Centrally located to many attractions
CONS: Noisy No hot shower water on two occasions Unreliable wifi connection Sites close together
Campsites are crowded together
Campsite was very close to highway and sites are very close, but the bathrooms were super clean and updated. It’s a nice campground is you like being close to your neighbors
Heartland rv park
Our homebase for 5 days to all the national parks in the area. great staff friendly, food and beer on location
Camping in S. Dakota
First day in park. Nice amenities, full hookups, camp store, pool, and some food available.
Close to attractions and free way.
We stayed early on the season the winter campers did not clean up after there dogs, when they did they put it on the fire pit. Be warned they have a open sewer pit could be a problem on the summer.
Good Stop
Stayed 2 nights, great communication via email re reservation and check out. Staff friendly Clean park , sites a bit close to each other but level . Not much grass or trees Clean laundry , good WiFi other activities closed for the season
Nice Cabins!
This place was super clean and the two older ladies at the front desk where extremely nice. The showers where hot and not really busy ( We stayed here in July). This was close to Custers Park and about twenty minutes from Rapid City. Will definitely be back!
