Just hanging around
Currently rooftop tent camping all over Montana had stopped here for the night ran into a guy and was told this was the Last river that does not have dams and that the locals are fighting to keep it that way
Close to 90 and perfect for a night stop over
Just great for a night stop over on 90 but prob would go down to Big Rocks if staying for longer. No water or trash but pit toilet is available. Some sites are private others are not. Prob 6 sites right along the river and others in a field. Plenty of space. Nothing spectacular but it’s free and a lovely nights stay on our trip.
Good overnight stop
There’s half a dozen spots along the river with trees, then space for dozens more in a big open field. There were about a dozen vehicles there, I was the only tent. Well maintained, grass mowed down, good gravel road, gas station in town 2-3 miles away.
Easy stopover off the highway
Great place for an overnight or 7! 3 miles off I-90 with spots for rvs, tents and a big field to pull into. Fire pits and toilet

Wonderful Access to Yellowstone River
Clean with a single vaulted toilet. Sites are very open and have limited morning shade. Great access to river's edge fishing and a boat ramp. Free camping for 7 days. Really close to town

Quiet pull in spot right by the water
Exposed but beautiful campground. A few spots right by the fishing access entrance. Quiet this time of year and the main road is far off enough that we slept very well
Excellent River front camping!
Gorgeous, free, vault toilet, fire rings. In mid October was just me and one other van so we both had spots right on the river. There are probably 3-4 spots to park on the river but more opportunity on the grass as others have said (and additional fire pits/tent spots on the river), so in summer I imagine this would be more full but honestly so beautiful and excellent this time of year. Recommend!!!!
great free spot by the river!
I stopped first at Pelican fishing access but decided to check this out instead. Otter creek feels much safer for a solo camper (other campers are around, it’s closer to town), there’s plenty of space in the field or you can snag a beautiful spot by the river! Saw deer, ducks, crawfish, etc and a nice sunset 10/10
Basic Boondocking
Arrived on Monday and not crowded at all. Room for 5 or 6 big rigs and several tents, depending on how they are parked. There is an outhouse. Access is easy but a bit rough so go slow. Yellowstone River is amazing, of course.
Free
Free spot on the Yellowstone close to Big Timber. Fast and high water in June. Not much to do at this spot but it’s free. One vault toilet.
River view.
Free!! River view, close to Big Timber. There are only about 3 true RV spots and 5 tent spots with fire rings, but there is a neighboring field that one could also camp in. Minimal shade. There are also day use people using the boat launch.
Quiet spot!
I stayed for one night and it was great. There’s 4 pull in spots with fire rings and then 3/4 tent sites with rings. Some people parked in the field to camp so I guess that works too. No amenities other than a vault toilet which was clean & stocked. It’s right along the Yellowstone river and so beautiful! Surrounded my mountains and peace and quiet. Arrived Friday late afternoon and they were half full. By the morning time, 4 other campers arrived. Everyone was kind and respectful. Definitely would stay again!

Montana FAS by Yellowstone River
This is a free Montana Fishing Access Site next to the Yellowstone River north of Big Timber. There was one clean single vault toilet for about 5 sites. No water or garbage available but each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There is a boat launch for fishing. It snowed when we were there in very late September 2019. We were the only ones there the two days we waited out the snow. This is a campground where there are few public campgrounds.
I added another star as this is a quiet campground in an area with few public ones available. And, it was free.

Great spot
Found this last minute. Wide open space and also spots right next to the Yellowstone River. You can park anywhere where. We parked in the open field with lots of privacy. Has vault toilet. There are some siyrs with stone made camp rings.
Great campground
Very beautiful and great veiw of the yellowstone river. Amaizing fishing as well! It does have a boat ramp and a bathroom on site. Not very much shade but overall a very great campground!
