Woodenfrog Campground
About
State Park
The campground is considered "primitive," designed to furnish only the basic needs of the camper. The campsites consist of a cleared area, fire ring, and table. In addition, vault toilets, garbage cans, and drinking water are available. There are only individual campsites available. Campsites are spacious throughout, so the deciding factors are privacy and proximity to the lake.
All sites are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Highlights: Woodenfrog State Campground and Day- Use Area is beautiful and rustic with a great swimming beach, boat ramp, and an old CCC building used for interpretive talks on a regular basis.
The day-use area is located on a pine-covered shoreline, can accommodate large groups, and offers quiet, private sites for smaller groups.

Another Great State Forest Campground
This campground is located just outside Voyageurs National Park on Lake Kabatoga. This is a primitive campground with pit toilets and water. Sites are mostly private with some having a view of the lake. Since most of Voyageurs is a water based park this is a great choice is you done have a boat. A lot of mosquitoes in July.
Great minimal state forest campground
Firstly know that wooden frog is a pretty minimal campground. It is a very typical state forest campground but there are a few sites in the back of the loop (38, 36, 33) that are really nice with lake views and little paths to the water. All sites have a picnic table and a fire ring. Some are not very level and some are TINY so choose carefully. 17$/night. Put toilets and water are available as well. Great jump off point for getting on the water in Voyageur. Several canoe/kayak rental places in the area as well. Lots of deer around, walking right thru our site.

Amazing campsite!
This site is a bit out of the way and private, though a bit of a walk to water and toilet. It has a BEAUTIFUL mossy area behind the campsite that was great to explore with my 8 yo.
Closest to Backpacking Yet!
This is a primitive campsite nestled into the boreal forest of Voyageurs NP. Great spacing and a lot of privacy. It is June and at most there are 15 campsites occupied. Mother nature also does a wonderful job with landscape architecture as usual. There are potable water sources and vault toilets(outhouses) conveniently dispersed throughout the campground– nice touch. The sites themselves have not been well maintained. They are definitely on the rustic side!
I managed to find one(#58) with a view to the northern sky so I could use Starlink. There is also a 3-bar Verizon LTE signal– surprising. As a full-timer, these things are important. There is convenient access to water and a boat ramp in the day use area. There is a lot of damage from floods some weeks ago and some of the roads and sites are not accessible. In general, it does not appear that the state puts much effort into maintenance and repair of this gem. There was no dumpsite :-(

Quite, peaceful, and great water access
Fantastic location with a calm to it. Due to substantial flooding in the area as well as being con the cold side but the campground was fairly empty with maybe 10 other individuals camping. Our campsite was right next to the lake where we were able to walk down and lunch our kayaks. Loved the quietness of this location.
Perfect for Kayaking on Lake Kabetogama!
This state forest campground was almost empty when I rolled in!
It had several spots to launch a kayak right from the campground and also a boat launch just a quick drive away.
The quiet and peaceful nature was just what I was looking for and I loved getting two paddles in during my stay!

Woodenfrog State Forest Campground
Woodenfrog is located along the shoreline of Lake Kabetogama - part of Voyageurs National Park. The sites all seemed to be nestled nicely into their own nooks among the trees. We were the only campers in the entire campground when we started in late April. The trail along the lake was nice, fire ring was perfect for cooking and the “locals” (squirrel & deer) were friendly.

Quiet Gem
We found Woodefrog State Forest Campground to be a perfect spot to enjoy Voyageurs National Park. We easily snagged a campsite next to Lake Kabetogama, kayaked, hiked, and enjoyed listening to the loons. We had sunlight for our solar and plenty of room.
Quiet campground for Voyageurs
The campground was quiet. There was a short hiking trail near the lake. The spots were fairly level but there's variability.
Great state campground
We stayed for 1 night on a site that had a short trail to the lake. The sites were private with lots of trees and wildlife. I could here our neighbors generator but as a tent camper we are used to it. They did respect the quiet hours.
I would camp here again. Kind people and cool sites.
One of the nicest camps I've ever stayed in
We love to drive around, aimlessly, enjoy the scenery and then find a place to plop for the night. Our preference is generally State Forest type of places that are self check in, less than $20 and quiet. Oh yes, and pet friendly.
We were pulling our teardrop on this trip, since it gets cold in MN earlier than southern areas. This campground does not have electric, but it wasn't too cold so we were just fine. Upon pulling in, the place appears huge! Most State Forest campgrounds are small-ish, but this one has 60 spaces! Two are ADA accessible, the rest are split between two "loops". The lower seemed quieter, and the upper had more RVs. Many are lakeside, and there is a hiking trail that runs around the camp on the outskirts that's up and down over rocks and terrain...lovely with the dogs! A small dock provided a jumping off spot for a quick rinse in the lake (dogs too!).
The campsite was tucked in the trees with all the things you expect. Fire ring, picnic table, etc, and many of the sites (this one too) were so tucked in the trees it was hard to see neighbors. Lots of space, not too close together! We visited in September. Water spigots scattered for drinking water, self check in, easy access.

Cute walk up only campsite
No prior reservations taken here, but easily found a spot on a Thursday afternoon in late August. Good privacy between sites, trees everywhere. Water was available and seemed to be just fine.
Primitive site, so fire ring, picnic table, vault toilets, trash cans provided. Also a nice day use area boat dock right on Lake Kabetogama with plenty of parking for your boat trailer.
