LegendThis is one of my all-time favorite places to hike and camp in Colorado. I have not yet stayed in any of the campgrounds but have backpacked to the top of the American Lakes Trail. Not only is this hike fantasticly beautiful and full of wildlife (tons of moose especially) but there is great dispersed camping along the trails. You simply cannot find more scenic and free camping in Colorado. I would highly recommended camping anywhere in State Forest State Park!
Also, there are quite a few huts, cabins and yurts that can be rented year round in SFSP!
GuideWe spent one night in an RV site. The campground is about 40 min North of steamboat springs. Well worth the drive. Beautiful views day and night.
GuideIt’s a large park convenient to steamboat springs. WiFi is good restrooms are clean. Sites in the new section are paved and level. There are only bathrooms in the new section, no showers, so there is a significant walk to get a shower.
ScoutThis is not 'glamping'. This is a pitch your tent, start a fire, watch the deer walk thru type campground. Beautiful views of the Rockies, trails for all levels of hiking. My only tip--bring your own TP, they kept running out. And a jacket, nights are chilly at this altitude. No trailers, RVS allowed as tiny, winding dirt road to get there.
GuideA basic family style campground directly on the Yampa River within city limits of Steamboat Springs. Tent sites, RV sites, tent cabins and full fledged cabins. We had a tent site right on the river. Miniature golf. Various bikes to rent. This was the priciest camp site on our cross country trip. But it is located within an upscale ski resort town so probably expected. A little noisy from road traffic.
RangerWell north of Steamboat Springs, up a beautiful valley and on a nice man-made lake. The sites are on top of each other and the beetle kill of the pines have made this a bit barren looking. Campsite can get loud with lots of family stuff going on. The lake is nice for a canoe and paddle board. Good launching point for hikes and MTB.

GuideWe spent July 4th holiday at this campground. The site had lots of green grass and some trees. We were close to the boat ramp so it was an easy walk down to the river. We drove out to Steamboat Springs one of the days and had a lot of fun on the river trail. Hayden has minimal services so stop in Craig or Steamboat if you need supplies. Decent cell and 4g reception.

The grounds are pretty and well kept and clean. Showers were spotlessly cleaned.
The river runs right next to the campground.
There is a bus that comes right into the campground and will take you into downtown Steamboat Springs, and it is a free service. It runs until 1130pm.
Site 74 was perfectly flat and needed no leveling. Plenty of room for my 30' trailer.
I will be returning to this place!
GuideWe stayed for 2 nights in late July, in the Sunrise Vista, Arnica loop (site 16). Next time we will try for other sites in sunrise that have wonderful views of the lake & surroundings (not in the inner loop right next to the vault toilet 😃). Well maintained. Sunrise is a moderate-long walk from the Marina, so if you are there for a lot of water activity, Dutch Hill might be more desirable. Nice hiking trails, also. We were hoping to get in a little work while there, but lack of WiFi prompted us to head to Steamboat Springs when that was needed. Don’t expect a lot of shaded spots-very few options that we saw. Overall, highly recommend this place!
