Dispersed Camping
China Wall Dispersed Site
About
USDA Forest Service
Don't want to camp in a developed campground? There are many places on the Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands where you can pitch a tent and practice low impact camping techniques. Dispersed camping is primitive, undevleoped, frontcountry "car camping".
Remember: when dispersed camping, no toilets, trash service, or potable water, are available. Store all food and trash securely, and pack out what you pack in. Practice Leave No Trace.

8 sites mostly for RVs and trailers
China wall.
It is on County Road 212. It is designated camping area only. Once you turn onto China wall, there are 8 open spaces before you reach the really steep hill for the OHV area.
The sites are big enough for big rigs. We saw a couple of probably 25 foot plus trailers in there. There is not a lot of coverage for tent campers. Also, since this is dispersed camping, there is no water, no sewer, no electric hook ups, etc. My biggest concern is that there’s also no firewood available in the area. Make sure you bring plenty with you.
The number one thing this area has going for it is the views. They are almost 360° panoramic views of the mountains all around you. It is incredible Colorado scenery. There are a total of eight designated sites before you go onto the China wall trail system, which is the OHV trails.

China wall Camping and OHV trails!
Turn right onto CR77 from US24 and head roughly 11 miles. You’ll come to a little right turn which is the entrance of China Wall. Its easy to miss and drive right past. It’s a dirt road that loops around and you can find a bunch of spots to park and set up camp. Camper, Tent, whatever you want. No reservations or price, just limited spots if it’s busy (summer weekends) The road gets a little rocky so if your car isn’t made for it maybe just park at the entrance. MOST people go out to ride all their toys. ATVs, Razors, Jeeps and such. At the end of the loop there are two trails, one going UP the mountain and one going DOWN. The upper trail is closed until closer to Father’s Day weekend. It is mostly people going out to do some riding so don’t expect a quiet secluded spot but it’s definitely a spot to go camp and get outdoors. This site wasn’t listed on The Dyrt app so I felt a need to share it!
