Dispersed Camping
DW Ranch Road
About
Bureau of Land Management
Camping on public lands away from developed recreation facilities is referred to as dispersed camping. Most of the remainder of public lands are open to dispersed camping, as long as it does not conflict with other authorized uses or in areas posted "closed to camping," or in some way adversely affects wildlife species or natural resources.
Dispersed camping is generally allowed on public land for a period not to exceed 14 days within a 28 consecutive day period. Camping limitation rules vary per office, please check with your local office for details on camping limitations. In addition, campers must not leave any personal property unattended for more than 10 days (12 months in Alaska).
Campsite Selection Dispersed camp sites are located along most secondary roads and may not be marked. Popular locations can be recognized by the telltale flat disturbed area that has been used as a camp site before. Not all flat spots are sites. If possible, please use existing sites to avoid creating new disturbances. To further protect your public lands, campers must not dispose of any refuse, hazardous materials, sewage, or in any manner pollute the surrounding area.
States may have additional requirements or restrictions for dispersed camping.

Right of HWY
Stayed right off highway in big parking lot. Class C towing Jeep. Scouted out sites further up the road with Jeep but they were occupied even at noon. Appears to be a lot of permanent residents. Trash seems to be the Arizona state flower in the BLM dispersed areas.

Quiet with beautiful views
We came in just before dark. We couldn’t find any empty spots as easy access spots were scarce as we are towing a 26 foot trailer. However if you have a small 4x4 - you shouldn’t have a hard time finding a spot.
Sandy and Stuck w/ Good Trails
Super clean & well maintained. Not many places to turn around. Also super soft sand and rocks so we snuck in and had to be towed out 😩 I would stay here again but I guess I would need a different car. The location is super nice though.
Next to DW Ranch road
We pulled out from the DW Ranch Road (Google Maps 259) into one of these sandy dirt roads. Absolutely fine with 4WD and our Honda CR-V. It’s just a little bit loose terrain. Found a spot just about a quarter mile down the road. Didn’t see someone else close by. We stayed for one night in our tent and enjoyed the wonderful November sunset 🌞 We didn’t hear the i40. Just some cars driving up and down the Ranch Road. Good 4G Verizon internet connection, too. Didn’t had much view from here nor do we appreciate all the sand in our tent or shoes. But absolutely fine for one night 👌
Great spot noisy cow
Stopped here for the night on our way to the Grand Canyon. There were campers and vans at the first few spots so we drove down about 3 miles or so and found a dirt road off the main road. Took it as far as our Honda Accord would go and had a great little campsite for the night. We realized we forgot our air mattress while setting up camp so we were grateful for the Walmart nearby! There was a lonely cow making noise all night which was a little scary when we didn’t know what it was but we laughed in the morning when we saw who it was.

Excellent place (when drive far enough up)!
Quiet! Can see the traffic on the interstate, but we hear NOTHING! So glorious! Lovely views! We enjoyed a wonderful stay! (We are parked 39 feet from the road going up the mountain, RW Ranch Road, but rare are the vehicles on it!)

BLM land good for a night or two
Just outside of Kingman there are several places to stay for the night. Plenty of spots at the bottom of the road, but close to highway and noisy. If you drive up a couple more miles there are several dirt roads to pull off on. I stayed about 1.5 miles up and found a decent spot with some nice views of the mountains. There were several other campers fairly close. You could still hear the noise from the highway. I have Verizon and had excellent signal.
