Campground is nestled in a bug group of dense pines and only a 15-20 minute drive from Los Alamos. Quite a few hiking trails in the areas to explore the high desert mesas and escape the heat of Albuquerque.
Solid RV-focused campground. Half under trees and half in the open. Two bathhouses, laundry, and a dog park make this a nice, safe place to spend a couple of days.
Stayed for a couple of days; weekend into weekday. It was a 50% reduction in people from weekend (full) to weekdays.
Super easy access to the causeway: took us 50 mins to get to the WWII museum and 15 mins to a Whole Foods. Sites are well spaced apart and easy to get into. Between their website and Google Maps, it's really easy to pick a site you'd prefer.
Campground is perfectly located in the park, near the beach and trails, but not too close to worry about day traffic.
We didn't know much about the area before going but we were pleasantly surprised by the park. The sites were nice and spacious. Most were gravel, but flat. The camp host was super helpful. The office is only open from 9am to 9:30am, and 4pm to 4:30pm, but the front gate will give directions. Bugs were annoying, but not enough to skip the park!
We stayed in the recreation field which was great! It was wide open when we were there, quiet, and overall very relaxing. It's $25 a night, for both the rec field and their regular spots. There are 12 or so normal RV spots with a bath house. We didn't check out the bathroom, but the spots seemed fine. Right near a ton of hiking trails and about 10-15 mins from Dade City.
The campgrounds are amazing! Extremely clean, great location, and spacious. We went for the weekend, didn't go into any parks, and had a great time just hanging out. Will definitely go back.
We stayed for a UKI dog agility competition and had a blast! Most of the 50-acre property is open field with power/water posts orderly placed throughout. It was not busy at all the weekend we went, so we had our pick of spots. I've heard it does get very full for bigger competitions.
Sites don't have sewar hookups and I heard mixed reviews on the availability of the dump site. Seemed to be some confusion on can/when you can use it. There is a bathroom building for daily use, but no showers.
Not sure if you can reserve spots outside of competitions/events.
The winter season is October-April and the campground gets extremely full, going over capacity from December to February or March. Overall, an extremely large campground in two parts: main side and the annex. The annex has more space between spots, but no amenities (laundry, etc.); you have to drive to the main side for those. Not a big deal.
For long-terming, you're responsible for your yard. The FamCamp officer loans them out from the office. A pain for the annex, but still free.
Very conveniently located to the golf course and the various headquarters/units on MacDill AFB. Not as conveniently located to the rest of Tampa as it takes 12-15 minutes just to get off post from the campground.
The staff is nice when treated with respect. Have heard stories of the staff being mean or finicky, but the blame usually sounded on both parties.
The campground staff was great: while going from 15% to 100% occupancy in 24 hours, they still kept up the cleanliness support, and friendliness. It was a great experience in a trying time like evacuating for a hurricane. We did hear the lions from our campsite. Sites were decent sized. Some were gravel, most weren't.
This campground is in an awesome location: 25 minutes to downtown Hendersonville, 12 minutes to downtown Brevard, and 10-15 minutes from all the trails at DuPont and Pisgah!
We stayed here over Christmas while visiting family nearby. Reservations and check-in was very easy and all online. When we arrived, we pulled right into our spot, and we were greeted by the camp host. She brought an info paper and treats for our dogs (and us humans)!
The sites are all nice gravel; all full hookups. The pull-thrus were actually easier to back in to given the one-way road structure, but it was honestly 50/50 either way.
There is a little community shack with a Keurig, maps of the area, comfy chairs, and some small desk for a change of work scenery. There is also a nice big community yard with Adirondack chairs and fire pits. We just wish the weather was a tad bit better to use it.
It is right on US-64, which is great, but can be a little loud during the day.
Overall, this is a great base camp for activities in the area. Very dog friendly. You can tell the owners put a lot into making this campground a great place to stay.
Stayed here for a couple of days along the way to family; great spot! Easily picked up trails from the campsite, shower/bathrooms were great, staff was very friendly, and only 25 mins to downtown Savannah!
We were newer to RVing, so it took a little bit to level the RV on the same and tree roots. But honestly, it was well worth the privacy and nature.
