Gorgeous Riparian Forest

Scout camp is on the Carson river and within the tall cottonwoods. Camp in the shade or out in the open if it’s very windy as the trees can shed branches. Garbage collection and pit toilets. Nice trail along the River.

As of October 2023 the access road to scout camp was washed out. But there is dispersed camping on the terrace to the south.

Dune Buggie Mecca

Just as described. Entertaining to watch but noisy. We camped just inside the gate. Free Tuesday and Wednesday. Otherwise it’s weekly fee or annual pass. Garbage pickup, fire rings, pit toilets. Loud fireworks after dark.

Small FS camp great fall colors

Small campground with 10 sites circling a grassy lawn and 10 sites scattered upstream along the canyon with maple, oak, and cottonwood all turning colors in October. Water turns off October 2nd and campground closed for the season oct15th.

Sheep camp

If you tell google to send you to this camp you will find a relic sheep handling facility on BL M land that is mapped as Snake Creek Campground. We never made it to the camp.

Perfect View and more

Perfectly simple place to visit the area. And support organic farmer. The only caution is that Los Osos Valley Road is busy. Don’t try to left turn across. If you are heading west there is a left turn lane a bit further on. The GetDirections from DYRT will not take you to the site. Read the location directions and watch for the green mail box.
