This campground is very close to the Denver / Boulder area so it is easy to get to for me. The kids enjoyed camping here. There are most of the basics and the restrooms are clean. The only negative I have to say is that it is closer to home and the city than I prefer to be but other than that it was great.
The parking is a bit of a bear so keep that in mind.
I stayed here in May on memorial day weekend. It was extremely hot at the rim of the Grand canyon and cooler here. The campground has two bunkhouses - one for men and one for women. And I believe there are a couple of cabins available too. They book up very quickly. The campground has a store with food and basic items and you can reserve a meal in advance as well.
I stayed here with a boy scout troop. The park itself is nice and well organized. Campsites are spaced out and all amenities are available depending on what type of site you stay at - RV or Tent. The only drawback for me is that it's in the middle of town and it feels like that to me. If you want to stay somewhere inside town then it's perfect for you.
I did see some wildlife when I was here - wild owls and deer. And I've seen bald eagles in this park before as well.
We had a good time camping here and we rented a boat and went on the lake. But the wind was intense in the evenings. I wouldn't go back here with a tent.
This is a tent only site but it was great. There is a host on-site who is very helpful. The restrooms are very clean. The tent sites are great and there is unlimited firewood. We went into Crested Butte to eat one night and we drove over to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison as well. Both were suggestions from our host. We also went boating on Taylor lake.
The park is in Rocky Mountain National Park and it is great. There is tons of wildlife - Elk, Mule Deer, chipmunks, wild birds of all kinds.
We stayed in a tent site but there are RV sites as well.
I stayed here with my kids (teenagers and young-uns) in two sites. We stayed in tents but the sites also accommodate RVs.
As a bonus, we did have a herd of wild mountain sheep nearby.
Very nice, very scenic, very beautiful. If you are looking for somewhere with waterfalls in Colorado, this is it! The campsites numbered 1-10 are the RV sites and most are near water/ the creek. The other sites are tent only and are very secluded.
I would definitely stay here again. The only negative I can say is the showers took quarters to get water…other than that it was great. Great location, good RV campsites, decent wi-fi. Checking in and getting to our site was super easy.
The campground is very close to the entrance to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and the campground has a great view of the sand dunes as well. I give it high praises for having free showers - a must after visiting the sand dunes. Additionally, it is super dark at night-time…I had to take my dog out at about 1 am to do his business and the view of the stars was phenomenal!
Having said that, the campground is pretty spartan…there isn't much in the way of trees and separation between RV campsites. But you don't go here for the great campground, you go here because it's super close to the entrance to the Sand Dunes.
