Don’t miss the one of a kind Texas sight!

The campgrounds at Enchanhted Rock aren’t the best. They have nice space and a phenomenal night sky view but otherwise they’re regular joe campsites. But really we’re all coming to see the rock right? THATS why you camp at Enchanted and THATS what makes the mediocre campsites worth it!!!! If you’re wanting to stay overnight (or even get in) book early and come early!!!! This is one of the most popular parks and it regularly has to close due to capacity. However, Enchanted Rock is a MUST see for all true Texans. The summit is steep and hard on a hot day but can boast one of the best views of our great state from the top. Don’t miss it!

My #1 in the Texas State Park system

If you like the outdoors you’ll love it at Daingerfield. It’s abundant in beautiful pines that surround the small lake. It also has some CCC features. If you’re looking to accommodate a large group of people I would recommend the Bass Lodge- it’s PERFECTION! It sleeps 15, has several bedrooms and one large meeting space. It has a patio with a trail that leads right down to the lake. You can swim in the lake if it’s warm enough and there is a pier to swim out too. Don’t miss the trail that goes around the perimeter of the park- it’s a beauty!

Good pit sto- LARGE park!

There is a lot of ground to cover at this park! Plenty of hiking with good elevation changes and it’s also very close to the Wyler Aerial Tramway (also from TPWD). It was miserable hot when we were here but it was a good trip nonetheless! If you don’t go by park headquarters there are iron rangers all over to pay your fees! There is only primitive, group and RV camping here so be aware of that!

A lot of sand but REALLY neat!

Monahans was a blessing on our trip down to a different park near El Paso. It is in the Midland/Odessa area and should not be missed!!!! We stopped there in September and there were sunflowers EVERYWHERE! It was the most amazing site considering that there is sand covering most of the park! Be forewarned, sand gets into everything while your camping here so come prepared! And don’t miss out on the Sand Dune sledding!!!! It was such a treat! The hike up is a little hard (and if it’s super hot wear closed toe shoes so you don’t burn your feet!) but the ride down is a blast! High recommendation! And, the bathrooms were clean :)

Camp here- it was great and you’ll never see so many stars!

The Rio Grande Village is closest to Boquillas and Hot Springs but it’s a nice point for ALL your Big Bend adventures! Sites are big enough and have a little shade but it’s the view of the stars at night you’ll want to stay for! The Hot Springs are also great but sometimes crowded! Tru going early or staying late for the least crowded times. Don’t miss Boquillas canyon! You can also go across to the village here. While you’re in the park it’s only 45 minutes across to see Santa Elena and do plenty of hiking in between. PACK WATER. I repeat : PACK WATER. This is the desert and water isn’t on every corner.

Great metroplex destination

Cedar Hill is perfect for a day trip if you’re living in the DFW metroplex. It offers camping, swimming, hiking, biking and the historic Penn Farm. Cedar Hill suffered a lot of damage during the 2015 floods but has rebounded nicely and is a nice place to get away from it all. Warning: not all campsites are created equal and it would be well worth your time to get there as early as possible to get a nice spot. In the summer people are in line waiting when the office opens at 6 AM to claim their spot. There is a lot of wildlife including bunnies, road runners, snakes and deer. There’s great wildflowers here during the spring. It also offers a boat ramp to Joe Pool Lake. If you’re going to swim the bottom of the lake is muddy. Fishing here is really good as well.

Go immediately if you love Texas

Caprock Canyons not only looks like it fell out of a John Wayne classic but is also home to the Texas State Bison Herd! The Bison roam free throughout the park so keep an eye out for them when you’re exploring. There are also prairie dogs everywhere! Enjoy them! They’re funny and cool. You can hike around or into the canyon and both are AWESOME! The sites were good sizes and most had shade in the RV loop. One of the cleanest bathrooms I’ve used in a state park was here as well! There is plenty of history within the park as well as ranger programs and wildlife. Seriously worth the drIve!

If you haven’t been here you’re missing out!!!!!

This campground has it all! Cabins, RV, tents- on the river or in the forest! Nature center- check! Fly fishing- check! Paddle boats, canoes and kayaks- check check check! Enjoy the loveliest place in Oklahoma and visit Beavers Bend you won’t be disappointed!!!!

Really spacious RV sites on the lake- yahoo!

This was the first trip we took with our new vintage camper and it did not disappoint! Even in the bitter cold of December Fort Parker had plenty to offer. Their sites are well spaced and large with a picnic table and fire ring. There are several right on the lake. They have several hiking trails and a few historic sites to explore. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great Campground for fishing, foliage and family

We “camp” here in the cabins almost every year for our annual family camping trip of almost 20 people. The cabins are always clean and tidy. They have spacious bathrooms, an open living/dining area, a small kitchen and bedroom. most also have a nice back porch with picnic table. Cooper Lake is also very close to downtown Sulpher Springs which offers a great day trip! We may have 20 people but we never feel overcrowded here at Cooper (in the campground or in the cabins all together!) We go every year and I hope you start to too!

Awesome place for a Girls Trip AND fall foliage!

Went here on a short backpacking trip with about 10 other ladies and primitive camped about a mile or into the area. It was a GREAT area for all of our tents and a great area for commrodity! We had a blast and will return! The hike out to the primitive camping area was moderate and fairly flat. You do cross a creek bed so be prepared to get wet if the flow is good. Plenty of flat spaces for tents and plenty of space away from your neighbors. Star gazing was good!

Go back in time...

Dinosaur Valley lives up to its name! Anyone can easily access the river and see the dinosaur footprints this park is know for. Dinosaur Valley has trails for the experienced hiker and family oriented as well as plenty of room along the river to swim and escape the Texas heat. Campsites are a good size and offer shade. I’ve been many many times and keep coming back! It’s also nice for you dog!

Gets better every time we go!

South Llano is a little out of the way for most but well worth the trip. It hosts birding, turkey habitats and an abundance of deer- and that’s just the tip of the iceberg in regards to wildlife. It has extensive hiking trails and lots of ranger led programs. It’s located on the South Llano so swimming is a must and a joy. Hiiiiighly recommend!

All time favorite in the Texas State Parks!

Meridian SP is such a hidden gem. If you’re not a fan of the Texas heat they just added one limited use cabin in addition to RV, tent and screened shelter sites. The BEST place to stay is the shelters on the lake hands down! There is also a CCC building at this park that serves as a gathering area on the lakeshore. It has several well maintained trails and the lake is good for fishing. Wildflower season here is CRAZY!

Best backcountry site ever!

La Noria #1 should get a campsite medal! It was seriously everything I could have ever ever wanted in a backcountry site! Awesome fauna, awesome views and no people!

Awesome views, cool air and just a little cramped

The Chisos Basin in Big Bend National Park is cool whether you’re in a tent or a camper. It has a ton of pros: bathrooms close by, being the coolest place in the park (serious bonus in the summertime), close proximity to hiking trails (don’t miss the Window trail!!!) and it close enough to the Chisos Basin restaurant and store you could walk if you’re feeling ambitious (it IS uphill haha!). My only complaint for this campground is how cramped it feels! If you’re trying to get away from it all and feel open space around you Chisos may not be your best bet. Sites are small and very close together.

The best trees I’ve seen in a long time!!!

I had the pleasure of stopping at this park as part of a day trip to do some hiking and relaxing and can’t wait to get back!!! Banning State Park also has an old quarry you can see if you’re interested. The hiking trails were well marked and clean and the bathrooms were also nice! (I can now say I’ve been in a composting bathroom that the smell didn’t make me want to die- super bonus!!!) However the real magic of Banning State Park was the beautiful river and the fauna. It was so so incredibly beautiful. Tall and lush trees in every direction! We also saw several different Warblers!
