Humble, great hosts every time. Firewood available. Big open areas for big groups. Small spots for smaller groups(most have area for one or two cars). Amazing, updated, clean facilities. If you have pets, check them for ticks after, just a heads up! Friends and I use this area for when we don't feel like back country camping before we head out to the amazing Canyoneering along West Clear Creek (WCC) has to offer.
You need a 14-day notice to camp here. Don't bother trying to show up without notice and expect to be let in. Despite their HUGE campground, they will not accommodate quick overnight guests. Twice I've been turned away by very rude camp hosts. (Friends and I tried camping there while Oak Creek was closed in 2014). If everything else along Oak Creek is occupied go camp at Clear Creek or up to the dispersed camping near Lake Mary. Honestly, even if I had a great group, I'll take them elsewhere, their lack of hospitality ruined this once amazing campsite.
Unlike most of the other campsites in Sedona, AZ, Pine Flat is pretty spread out and you're not on top of one another. The main site on the West side of the 87 is a short pleasant hike to Oak Creek. Pine Flat in general has close easy access to a lot of the BEST wilderness/backcountry hiking/climbing in Sedona! I highly recommend it over the other car camping spots in the area.
