Hiked in here after work on a Monday, 7 mile minimum if you start at silver lake and take the shortcut. Not very secluded, but a nice spot on the lake still. Saw a lot of mountain bikers and there are some houses on the lake so there was some boat traffic as well.
The campground itself is nice, with an outhouse, water spigot, and a trash can so you won't need to pack out everything if you stay here.
Great place to stay for an overnight hike.
Lots of space in between the sites with trees and such in between, so it has a great wooded feel with modern bathrooms/showers in each loop. Tent pads, picnic tables, and fire rings on each site are all a plus, though you can't move the tables as they're secured to the ground on the tent pad.
Great fishing, paddling, and tubing on the Platte River just across the street. You can rent tubes/canoes/kayaks from Riverside Canoe Rentals just across the bridge (~1/2 mile from the campground) - also a great place to get ice cream.
Plenty of Lake Michigan beaches to drive to. Whether right at the end of Lake Michigan Rd. at Platte River Point, or a bit farther away, there are plenty of options. Can even have campfires on some of them - awesome way to see the stars and a good sunset.
Very difficult to get reservations, though. Online reservations open 6 months before the date you're trying to reserve so be on right at 10am or you'll have to try your luck with the walk-in sites.
Great spot, but crowded for obvious reasons. Only 2.7 miles from rock harbor, this is obviously a popular place to stop for a night. We stayed here our last night so we only had a short hike in the morning before catching the ferry back to the mainland. Definitely not secluded, but nice all the same.
Had some decent trees to put hammocks up if you bring one. Also, made a little fox friend that came through our site
Loved this spot. Spent our first night here coming from Rock Harbor and had a great time. Got our own shelter even though we showed up a little late in the day. Had some good spots to put hammocks up at our site and water is plentiful since it's right on Lake Superior. Awesome spot to spend a night
We stayed at McCargoe Cove two of our four nights at ISRO and absolutely loved it. The shelters are very secluded from one another so you won't be on top of the group next to you at all. Nice fire ring down by the water - though not much downed wood very close nearby to get a fire going.
This was my favorite spot that we saw on the island, would recommend to anybody. Absolutely gorgeous and peaceful in the morning. Best spot I've had had a cup of coffee.
We had a fox come through our site right outside the door of our shelter too - way cool.
Fantastic little campground, right on the Manistee River. Potable water and vault toilets so it's definitely rustic. It was super quiet when we were there so we had a great time. The NCT follows the river right into the campground so you can backpack in or car camp.
Great for kayaking/canoeing as well. We put in upriver a ways where there was parking and got out right at the campground. It was close enough that we could follow the trail along the river back to our car since we only had one. Awesome spot!
I have been going here with my family for the past ~15 years and it's great. Not rustic by any means, but a great spot for kids and multiple families to have a good time. Right on Grousehaven lake with a small beach and playground and a large open grassy area for kids and dogs to to run. Biking/hiking trails run right behind some campsites so you don't have to get farther into the woods.
Great for kayaking/canoeing down the river too. You can rent from the little place across the street or bring your own - just make sure to have an extra car down at the end to get back.
Would recommend this place to anyone.
