Perfect campground in a very friendly town

Very spacious sites, well maintained. Love the view, great sites, but as in most places, the noseeums were unbearable as we set up camp. Love the trails here, and you need to visit downtown St Mary’s and take the ferry to Cumberland Island to visit the Carnegie Estate ruins and wild horses. Second time here and will come again.

A perfect 2 day vacation

We have a SUV tent and booked two nights at the campground and absolutely enjoyed our time there, in fact we stayed until 5 minutes before the noon check out. Driftwood Beach was a 10 minute walk from the campground and we were able to find sand dollars at low tide. We also brought our road bikes and biked the islandceach day we were there, about a 18 mike ride. Walked to the Horton House to watch the sunset over the Intercoastal Waterway. Would definitely recommend this campsite to everyone. You do need to pay a $6 parking fee/day so make sure you bring your groceries with you.

Excellent hiking

Beautiful location to hike the gorge, well maintained trails and campsites.

Beautiful setting

We camped here because honestly we were able to find available sites. Upon arriving the camp hosts, Gene and Margaret met us and escorted us to our site. They were such genuinely nice people. Robert the ranger also gave us many hints for hiking the area. Laundromat and Ingles grocery store just a 5 mile drive. This site is more suited for the fly fishermen and mountain bikers. Facilities were kept in excellent condition

Just gorgeous

Beautiful site next to river, a lot of hiking options. Ice available a short bike ride or hike away at horse stable. No internet available so check weather forecast before leaving the visitor center
