Great campground, fabulous location

Jefferson Campground is located near the intersection of Routes 2 and 115 in the White Mountains. The new owners have made major improvements since the spring of 2019 when they took ownership. The RV sites have full hookups and the tent area is tucked into a wooded area with wild apple trees. There is onsite laundry, a pool and a playground. WiFi and Verizon signal were good. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful. Groceries are available in Lancaster, a 15-minute drive. There is also a good brewpub there, the Copper Pig. We love to hike, so this was the perfect location for us. So many trails in the area! We are looking forward to visiting this area again and will definitely return to this campground.

Great experience

We just wrapped up a two week stay at R&D Campground. What a treat! We prefer smaller campgrounds that are more laid back and this was perfect. The owners, Rita and Dennis, are very personable and engaging. We loved gathering at the pavilion. The bathrooms were the cleanest ever seen in a campground. If you like a chill campground that’s off the beaten path, this is it!

Great find

We stayed at Grindstone for the first time in 2018. Liked it so much we stayed 9 nights…and came back in 2019. The sites are well spaced and fairly level. We like to hike and there are TONS of trails in this area. One trail leaves directly from the campground and will bring you to the top of Mt. Rogers, also intersecting with the Appalachian Trail. Bath houses with toilets and hot showers were functional and clean. The only reason I gave this campground four stars instead of five is the lack of cell service. You have to drive 8 miles, around the mountain, to get on the grid…small price to pay. Be sure to check out the Virginia Creeper Trail for a super cycling experience. Rentals and shuttle service in nearby Damascus.
