Nice campground overall and amenities that include showers for guest, outside sinks at shower house for tent camping etc, small but newish playground, many FULL hook up sites for RVs (30amp only)… Day parking across the road from campground is river front to the Deschuttes River (very shallow) and was great for wadding in during warm months. Closest campground to Bend without being IN Bend Close to neighbors for all sites and they are all always full it seems…very convenient campground though!
As full timers, we always stay here (year around) when in the Denver area for work. Great playgrounds by the campgrounds, really great laundry facility (also with showers and restrooms if needed). Really well maintained sites and park rangers for added safety and re-enforced rules. The off season is a little more relaxed since less busy.
Very conveniently located (15m any direction), between multiple parts of the city suburbs and Denver interstate system for ease of getting around.
Pros:
- closest to downtown Lincoln amenities
- electric hook-ups with a few different terrain options for a site
- lake view approx 100 yds
- no one else camping during winter here (except one van for a night)
Cons:
- lots of locals drive through - including the campground drive if they choose
- state park with a fishing and small fowl hunting area - therefore gunshots a little too close for comfort - or not at all if you are not comfortable with
- the neighbor across the road (75yds or so from campground), has a dog outside at night that barks constantly - though there are coyotes heard within the same amount of distance…also sounds to be comfortable with in order to camp here
Two weeks stay and ready to move along where there is a trail system to hike without hunting concerns, local traffic, barking dog - coyotes However have enjoyed the campground / space to ourselves after our months of busy campgrounds on the Colorado front range
Having lived and worked in this area (previously not as a full time traveler), Chatfield SP has a lot to offer for being one of the few campgrounds in the Denver Area.
The biggest dog park around (25 acres), many endless, open spaces/trails for biking and ‘hiking’/walks/runs (mostly flat grounds), 15m from most necessities (stores/restaurants etc) Also: Really look forward to doing laundry here as a traveler (kept clean and always in working order with use of machines via an app!)
Camphosts are on time and do a great job cleaning up sites for new guests.
Couple of great playgrounds at the camp loops!
Facing west provides unobstructed views of the park and foothills (varying based on the loop and site)
Overall, clean, safe, spacious and conveniently located while not being IN the city or nearby towns.
Rating a three for two reasons: 1) the potable water is shut off (dump station open), and 2) the RV camp Spots are directly next to each other (No room for privacy feom the neighbors)
However, we always prefer to camp by some sort of body of water, so check that box. AND they have a great Christmas light show throughout the park around the lake/campground for the locals that my daughter enjoyed!
