Open

This park is great and it’s 100% open for 2021…I was just there, it’s not closed at all, just a very small part of the park is for repairs and upgrade 6/17/21

Nice campground

This is your typical Michigan State campground, it’s an older campground so there’s lots of trees on most sites. We had site 111, it was level and well treed, it was also huge! We had our 5th wheel, 2 tents and 3 cars and still had plenty of room for more. Bathrooms were clean and the showers, even being a little dated were also clean and had plenty of hot water. The lake levels are pretty high so there isn’t much beach left but what is there made for 2 very nice beach days. The sunset views from the dunes was awesome! There’s a path going thought the middle of the campground that leads to the beach, about a 10 minute walk from our site. The playground had kids in it the whole time with an old style merry-go-round being the kids favorite. The campground was full but was quite and well maintained, we saw numerous patrols by the campground staff both during the day and at night, they are friendly and helpful if you have questions. All in all I will be going back to this campground

Nice park

We camped here in early June right after the Star Parks were allowed to open. The campground is very well kept, lots of old growth tress. Our spot was level with trees for good shade. The camp store had just opened so they were not very well stocked and this included wood, a short ride up the street got us the supply we needed. The bathrooms were well maintained and clean. The camping areas was all quite after 10:00. The beach area was big with plenty of space to spread out. All in all I nice place with very helpful and friendly staff. It was an enjoyable weekend and we plan to back before the season is over

Primitive

Our camper is self contained so this campground was a test of just how well all the systems work. When you get there if you don’t have reservations you have to use the yellow phone. All the spots are level with lots of trees, our lot was large and could easily fit 2 campers. All the sites are surrounded by trees so you have a sense of being secluded from others. It rained most of the weekend so we didn’t get to see most of the place. The lake was much bigger then we thought and lots of campers with boats. There was only 1 hand pump that I saw for all the campers to get water from. This mid-evil hand pump should have been scraped years ago and is in need of some major repair work. They don’t sell firewood there but a short drive gets you deal from the local farmer, the campground has no dump station so we had to drive to the next State campground, about a 30 minute drive, to dump the tanks. Other then that even though it rained the whole time we enjoyed the park and will most likely go back and give it another try!

Nice old growth campground

We enjoyed our stay at this State Park. There’s lots of trees on each of the sites, it’s about a 50/50 split on the level vs not so level sites. They are average in size with a few really big ones. The park is one of the oldest State Parks so the bathroom facilities are dated but very clean with the showers being very dated and not so clean. The park itself is well maintained. It’s a short walk from the campground to Lake Huron, the beach is great and another short walk will being you to the day use area, again very well maintain. We will be going back to this campground, it was very relaxing, a quite place to spend some time

Great place to camp!

Stayed here for 3 nights over the July 4th weekend 2020. Had a great site right on the lake, fire pit was 10 feet from the water, most sites are large with trees but not many are very level. Bugs were not a problem during the day but the second that sun goes down have the bug spray ready. The park was clean and very well maintained, bathrooms were very clean. It was still early in the season so the camp store wasn’t well stocked yet but they were working on it. The beach area was nice with a nice big sandy beach for the kids. The Porcupine Mtns were a 30 minute drive north and we had a great time there. I plan to go back here again as soon as I can.
