Chisos Mountains in Big Bend

There are a decent enough sites that you should be able to find one with shade if you get there early, but some of them are exposed. The restrooms have heaters for the winters and are kept clean. There are no showers up here, but the lodge is close by if you are in dire straights for some wifi. There is almost never an issue with getting a site in Big Bend, but it never hurts to get there early to ensure a good a site!

Whitehouse Campground used before hiking the Wave

I stayed in this campground in early September and I was the only person there. It's great if you like the convenience of a drive-up site, but also prefer seclusion. I believe there were 8 sites all equipped with picnic tables and fire-rings with a few vault toilets. The toilets were decently clean when I was there and there was toilet paper. There really isn't any shade, so it's not the best place to hang out in the middle of the day in summer! Nice views and easy access to some backcountry trails in Coyote Buttes.
