We stayed here twice now, as it is the perfect stop over between our vacation destinations. The staff are helpful, friendly, and kind. The campground itself feels rustic with trees between most sights, and I personally like the subtle hills, which make the sites feels more spread out. Most of the sites seemed level or close to level, with a lot of pull throughs. The bathrooms were clean with nice hot showers. We loved the little hiking trail!
Transfer park campground is a nice place to camp just outside Durango. We mostly planned to spend the days down in Durango and use the camp spot for the evening. It is a bit of a trek from town, maybe 45-50min, but the drive is beautiful. The campground itself is clean and heavily forested. A small meadow separates the two loops, with a path down the middle to the beautiful river area you see in the pictures (3ish min walk from you site). We stayed in the lower loop on the “inside” part of the loop. The outside spots are closer to the river, but you have to scramble down the side of the mini cliff to get to the water, walking through the meadow let’s you access the river at “ground level”, so to speak.
