The only drawback for us is the 6 hour drive! Huge, wonderful pull thru sites. Wooded for privacy. Easy access to bath and shower rooms from most anywhere. Lots of places to fill water bottles, too. Highly recommend and one of the smartest laid out campgrounds we’ve seen.
A newly paved road leads into the park with lots of gorgeous views along the way. Very friendly staff. Bathrooms buggy… to be expected… but clean. Shower has ample hot water. Some sites are close together but nicely wooded for privacy. Some sites have water views.
Again, we stayed here for one night on our way elsewhere. We have to come back and make it our destination next time. Clean bathrooms… excellent camp hosts. Weekdays in the fall.. so quiet and peaceful.
Our second time camping here.. this time at the South campground. Definitely bring everything to repel the bugs… thermacells are a must. Waterview sites are amazing. Very little park staff presence that I could see. Showers and flush toilets at the north campground which is a quick drive or a very long walk. They were clean, but showers could use a refresh. Pro tip: there are wheelbarrows full of firewood for sale across from the entrance of the park. Only 5 dollars buys a generous amount that burns well.
We love this place! We were on the water in the W area, a spacious site with firewood prepaid and waiting for us when we arrived. Pit toilets are within a short walk and are among the cleanest I’ve seen anywhere. The only drawback is the showers. Coin operators is OK, but no temperature control. Fortunately, the water is hot! Staff is awesome, as always.
Fantastic site… what a view. Good firewood… but the place right at the entrance is fantastic…. Offering both hardwood and pine. The only drawback is a lack of staffing… not really surprising. Bathrooms not cleaned as often as other places, but, not a dealbreaker.
Large park with lots of site options. Being close to the lake is a plus! Firewood is well-priced and can be ordered ahead of time and delivered to your site. Bathroom with shower is clean… but not overly close. Beautiful facility… great staff.
Beautiful park with lots of options to camp lakeside. Many sites are very close together, so if privacy is important… choose wisely. Wonderful camp hosts had hot cocoa and coffee to share… great for a cool morning. We happened to visit during the Halloween celebration weekend… so it was overrun with kids. Not a deal breaker at all… but I think we may have chosen a different park had we known. Neighbors next to us really enjoyed themselves… maybe a bit too much! All said… we would camp there again… but only if we can get a lakeside site.
Love this place. Clean bathrooms and showers. Big fire pits and $6 per bundle for wood. Steps from the Straits and some site have water and/or bridge views. Great staff, too.
Love our site. It’s big, neighbors are not on top of us… and it’s quiet! Great firewood… only 5$ per bundle. Clean showers. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Wonderful county park. Our site is huge and wooded and three sides. Quiet. Clean toilets. Friendly staff… and a whole wheelbarrow of firewood for 10 bucks. Two things to note: bring quarters for the showers… and firewood can only be purchased on site from 3:30-4:00 daily.
Truly a northwoods destination. Nice sites near Lake Fanny Hooe. A little confusing that campers in the West Campground have to drive past their entrance to register and find firewood. $7 a bunch is a bit higher than other places. Bathrooms were mostly clean, but could use some updating. Last decent sized food store is in Calumet.
We knew we’d be happy near the lake, but wow… this place is stellar. Bathrooms are modern and clean. Park staff is very friendly. The beach is lovely. And our campsite is perfect.
We love it here and can’t wait to go back and camp again. Tall trees, peaceful, quiet, new fire pits, good bathrooms. Friendly attendant at welcome station. Abundant firewood right at entrance. We may choose a different site next time as ours was a bit close to our neighbors, but really not a deal breaker! We just prefer a little more privacy, but even with that we’d camp at this site again. Trail to river is short and easy to access. Lots of places along river to geocache, walk, or just relax and watch the world go by.
This is our first Wisconsin state park camping experience. This place is lovely! Nice and secluded. Our site is spacious. Nice deep fire ring with a grill grate. Really close to the river, as well. Yes… the trains do go by quite a bit, but it really hasn’t bothered us. Beautiful tall trees, clean pit toilets. This park is a gem! We’ll be back. (Oh, if you’re at the North Campground, make sure you take to short water access walk near site 20. Incredible views.)
This is a beautiful site, and I would give more stars. But, there was no camp host, no one at the office to check in when we arrived, no one cleaning the bathrooms, and no one enforcing the 10pm quiet hour rule. I don’t mind the pit toilets, but at least clean the building. And at least have enough light in the building so one can see at night. If none of those things make a difference to you, then enjoy camping here!
This was kind of a last minute find. We love this place! Site is big and level… just a short walk to bathrooms and the observation deck. The deck is the perfect place to catch the sunset. Clean, quiet… and just about perfect. We’ll be back.
Enjoying our time here, in spite of the rain. Some sites are nicely spaced apart. Camp hosts are friendly and helpful. Bathrooms and showers are modern and clean. We would camp here again. Site 21 is very nice… a little private elevated back yard area with a fire ring and picnic table. Only drawback is that it’s a little narrow, but not a deal breaker at all.
Lovely county park with lots of campsites. Office staff is super friendly. Our site is right on the water… so calm and peaceful. Family friendly. Nice and clean. We saw the sheriff’s deputy drive through a number of times at night. Good to see them just making sure no one was causing any problems. We would camp here again!
