Right behind the earthen dam that creates Mt Elbert Reservoir in the area if Twin Lakes. Multiple sites with fire rings. It is dirt so can get dusty. We had the area to ourselves on a Monday night.
A few minutes outside the south gate of the park. Multiple sites, most of which are on dirt. Paths to and from can be a bit rough for most passenger vehicles. But it’s quite and close to the park. If you’re lucky you can grab a site looking down onto the highway and into Montrose.
We stopped by here for the night on the way from Ft Worth to Moab. The only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is because we never saw it in the light. Arrived around 11pm and rolled out around 6am. But there were a few spots and all spaced out enough not to be right on top of someone else. Clean vault toilets were a plus.
The road up is a bit rutted but nothing horrible. Could see an issue if the area gets sustained rain.
Easy to get to, lots of space, sites of all sizes! Make sure you go deep enough to see all the dispersed sites, there are plenty of them. Enough space in between to keep things private and its not a far hop to town if you need something.
We camped here in July of this year and it was perfect! Close enough to town but out of the way enough to be quiet. Plenty of spots too. The ones closest to the main road are taken over quick but if you have 4wd you can get back pretty far and away. One of the best nights sleep we had for our trip.
