On a cross country road trip! We are going off the beaten path and exploring the true USA!

Red Rock Dreams

We got to the campground late Thursday night and were greeted by friendly staff. We were placed in the Fortress Cliff camp area. It was perfect for us, and far from everyone else. We got there right before a huge thunderstorm and were able to watch it go around the edge of the canyon—beautiful! We woke to a beautiful hot day and went on a hike. Friday evening was much busier and although the area we were camping in filled up, we felt secluded. The only downside to our camp area was that there were no bathrooms or showers. The porta-potties were very clean! We went to showers at a nearby camp area, only to be disappointed. The showers were very dirty and hair covered the drains. Something we can get past, but the park should pay more attention to the cleanliness of the bathrooms!

City Campground

Stayed at this KOA so we could spend some time in the city. It is what you’d expect from a campground beside the interstate. It was pretty full, there were sparse trees, and we could see everything our neighbors were doing. The bathrooms were very clean and the showers hot. The only downside was the traffic noise from the interstate, but that was to be expected.

Ok campsite, terrible customer service

Called around 4 pm to ask about availability and the woman said it was first come first serve and to follow the directions if we got there late. We got there at 6:30 and nobody was at the entrance so we put a marker where we wanted to camp and went on our way. Everything was clean and the campsite was very quiet. Nice overall.

When we went to check out in the morning, we were told we parked in the $30 lot and not the $18 (there was no signage). The man said he would give us the $18 rate since we did not know… but then this woman comes and starts yelling at him and telling him to “never do that again”. They bicker with each other for 20 minutes while we are standing right there! We finally pay and when we say that we were in a rush, hoping to move the payment process along since they did not accept cash, the woman starts yelling at us telling us that we have no right to tell her how to run her business and throws the receipt at us. We (finally) get in the car and she yells at us to get out and “never come back”. No worries. We won’t.
