very remote! high altitude. no showers, so come prepared. the camp manager is very helpful and gave us great tips for the mountain hike. it is some distance from the trailhead (although there is a trail from the campsite to the trailhead if you want to add another 8+ mi to your hike). very shady campside, which was nice and cool. stunning view of the Twin lakes Reservoir.
our 8 man tent was hanging off of the camping plot in some places, so measure your tent before you go! good showers available, and lots of walking trails. close to the Garden of the Gods, and just at the edge of town, so lots of accessibility to food, shopping and other attractions. we were right in with nature--we heard wolves howling every night. the bathrooms were very close by which was great. the site for choosing your camping spot was easy, and checking in was really easy when we got there.
This campground was better than expected--the tent sites were well spaced for privacy, and even on a busy weekend, we felt like we had our own space to enjoy nature. We were right on the waters edge, and the view in the morning was incredible, looking out over the lake with mountains in the background. There was plenty to do there on site--hiking, cooking out, a designated swimming area, and even boat rentals. The nearby town was about 20 minutes, which made for a easy grocery shopping trip. Some essentials and food items were available to purchase on site.
