Recommend entering into your GPS because there are a lot of side roads before hitting the parking lot/outhouse. Pack out pack in area.
Beautiful place to play, make sure to bring lots of water
Mainly a large parking lot, no bathrooms this time of year. Beautiful right on the way, be careful driving on the sand especially at low tide it quickly turns to mud flats
Perfect spot for a small wedding reception! The bon fire pit and grill gave an fun and cozy vibe while the cabin had comfortable beds and a warm stove while it was rainy. The stove would fog up the one of the big windows, but the window next it to was fine.
Stayed at site 19, only a few sites down there is a marked trail (steep and slippery when wet) that goes down to the ocean. There are nice tables at the picnic area, not many water sources or bathrooms. Low tide is breathtaking, be careful of the mud flats, they can be like quick sand
remote cabin in wilderness This cabin is cozy, but get dark at night. Highly recommend to bring fairy lights for inside and a file for the axe. Heads up very limited resources and LNT principles are highly encouraged. Enjoy!
Beautiful views of the ocean, recommend an extra tarp above and below for when it rains. Very close walk to town.
Beautiful park and campground. During busy months this place will be packed but on the shoulder season I had almost the whole campground to myself. Clean facilities, AT&T cell service as good as in town when in the day use area
Beautiful campground, just make sure you park on the far side by the river if you are a light sleeper. You can see the highway from the campground. FYI bathrooms have no hand sanitizer
Growing up in the Midwest and camping at state parks I’m use to a lot of interpretive signage explaining the history and landscape. Out of all the AK state parks I’ve visited this is by far the best. I also prefer this over Denali NPS, I find I have better luck seeing Denali from this side but also tons less people.
I love this campground right on the Gakona River. Any time I’ve gone I’ve been the only one. Different types of sites, is very buggy in July.
Great spot to rest. The night before a storm came through and gave a fresh layer of snow of the mountains. Highly recommend site 8, or the unmarked sites towards the end. Warning, entrance has a lot of pot holes. Decent cell service.
After camping on the Denali highway this campground was a breath of fresh air. Not many campers, sites spaced well. Due to bears no trash cans. Seems to be busy for day use/hunting jump off/parking vehicles.
This is a beautiful campground with a sounder full day use shelter by the creek. On the other side of the creek is a dog sled team who communicate regularly, so use ear plugs near the creek.
I like the state park more than the national park. I always have a better view of the mountain and there’s so much to do!
Lack of privacy in the first subdivision of sites. Beautiful trail down to the lake though. Would be interested in renting a public cabin and hiking to the remote sites. Appreciate the pet designated trail :)
This campground has a main parking lot and walk in sites. During the busy months there could be a lot of road noise, fall is the perfect time because there aren’t as many folks on the road.
Found this campground to be very tightly packed sites. It’s right on Montana Creek so great for fly fishing. Across the highway is a private campground with hook ups and a market
Great wayside, still in cell phone service. Clean rest stop, and detail interpretive signs, some times the trash over flows though
Beautiful campground! Not many sites, but a few right by the waterfall. It’s a shard turn off the road so when coming near Chitna keep your eyes peeled.
Also great for a short hike!
Pros: tent platforms to practice those LNT skills!
Small campground with sites close to one another. Right off Richardson Hwy and across from the Gulkana airport.
Pros: group camping, pull throughs, water, restrooms
