This was a parking lot style camping with 17 parking spots. There are a few walk-in tent sites on site as well. If you are military there are quite a few options for cabins and more sites but you need permission to enter. There were picnic tables, fire pits, a dock, and shared grassy area for this campground. There’s a rental place near by for water toys which makes a great day on the water for kids. I would choose this place to swim over Harding Lake this summer due to high waters at Harding. The mosquitoes were bearable but be prepared for back to back camping and zero privacy. The lake is stocked with fish and you can see plenty swimming around as soon as you look in the water. Bathrooms on site. Make sure to bring your own firewood. Passing the Air Force base on your way to the campground is so cool if you get to see a take off on your way!

This was a nice campground with a friendly couple hosting. The spaces were spaced out with privacy trees. I think we scored one of the best spots number 11. The mosquitoes were unbearable outside and in 73 degree weather you needed to be completely covered. The water was so high that the only water play area was the boat launch area. The kids still had a great time but I would check the water level before coming back. There is a dump station, water, and plenty of bathrooms throughout the campground. It is a party campground for water activities so expect noise well after 2am. There are no electric hookups. The closest store is about 10 minutes down the road and has your basic essentials. There are other lakes to visit within an hour radius which makes this a fun location. There is a baseball/soccer field on site which was a lot of fun for the children to run off so energy and it wasn’t very buggy. The water pump was turned off due to Covid19. There’s a water toys rental by the boat launch that offers paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards $25/2 hours or $35 for all day. They are only open Friday-Sunday or by appointment.

When we first got here we were the only ones parked on a Thursday morning. We didn’t have another occupant until the evening then by Friday late morning the place was booked.

We chose spot number 4 which has a private river access for fishing/viewing. We found a path through the woods that lead to a clean rocky water area the kids spent hours in. The spot next to ours had a fire ring with benches all around and a wonderful grassy area to play in. These two spots together would be the perfect group camping spot.

There was water here but a broken off handle so no access to the water was available.

There were multiple bathrooms (3 I believe) throughout the campground.

My 7 year old daughter wanted to take videos of the campsites and boat launch so I’ve attached those.

The boat launch was a popular drop off spot for fishing boats. We didn’t catch anything but my son had fun trying. We would like to come back this fall when it’s spear flashlight fishing time.

The birch trees had a lot of these green beetles on them that seemed to enjoy landing on you. There were plenty of mosquitoes and our hand held bug zapper came in handy but not enough to ruin your trip.

The kids were able to happily bike through the campground while I followed pushing a stroller.

There were ATV trails but nothing that bothered us in the evening.

Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the river and birds was peaceful.

My first thought when we drove into the campground was wow, this is nicely maintained. We had just stayed at Whitefish Campground about 2 miles away and driving into Olnes Pond Campground was beautiful. The electronic option to pay here is the first time I’ve seen that in Alaska. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout but we were a little too early in the season on this visit May 29, 2020. There a nicely sized pond in the middle of the campground and the camping sites are situated around the entire pond. There were day visitors who brought paddle boards and kayaks to enjoy the weather on the pond. People say you can swim in this pond put be weary of duck/swimmers itch. There are picnic tables, bathrooms, trash cans, and lots of grassy area to just enjoy a day visit. This seemed more as a party spot sort of camping oppose to enjoy the view and relax so be ready to hear ATVs and friendly conversations late at night. I would definitely come back with a kayak and fishing pole once the pond is stocked for the children to enjoy a relaxing day on the pond.

I abosolutely love this campground. The drive is amazingly beautiful with great views and wildlife spottings. With a camper trailer we went slow on the Denali highway (about 25) the whole time. There are about 20 first come first serve sites. There was not a camp host this year but there will be for 2019. A lady does come clean the campgrounds and does a great job. There is a nice atv/waking trail with berry pickings. There’s a creek for fishing and rafting. There is a water pump on site for water. There’s also a communal area with cooking and storage lockers. There is one over flow parking/camping area that was used by a group and seemed like a fun spot to gather. Lots of bike riding opportunities. This is a perfect spot for families, hikers, fishers or just people who want to hangout and enjoy the scenery. We will be 100% be coming back next year.

This campground is available by reservation or walk/drive in. There are only about 10 campsites but a few of them have a terrific set up. This is quiet, small and right on the lake. There are options to hang up your hammock, start a fire using your pit, walk down your private path to the lake and enjoy the weekend. This would be a great spot if you’re not looking to explore but to just relax on the lake. If it’s a rainy day you could drive into wasilla and make a fun day out of it. We ended up driving to the extreme fun center for the kids since it rained all day and had a blast! If you’re looking for more of a group I’d suggest big lakes north or south options.

This would be a terrific walk in tent site option to try out. Exit glacier is beautiful with nice trails. My 5 and 7 year olds did the walk just fine from parking lot to the glacier (maybe 20 min). There is a one mile wheelchair accessible trail loop with views of the glacier. There are two accessible camp sites. You are not allowed to store food at your campsite but there is a communial storage area for these items. There are vaulted toilets and a cooking area to use.

I have had a lot of friends come here to camp/explore. The photos alone make you want to visit! Twin peaks is a fun hike but pretty steep for kids. The view is worth the hike but be prepared. This campground has about 50 campsites, toilets and water. Each campsite comes with a picnic table and fire pit. This would be a great location to have a bicycle. We will definitely visit, hike and camp!

I’m not sure if we planned the trip around the largest mosquito outbreak ever but this is the first time I wanted a head net! :) the bugs were terrible but the campsite wonderful. The campsites were private, plenty of site options, bathrooms conveniently located and water to play in near by. This campground had a roped off beach area where people played, lounges, kayak/canoe and spent all day. If we came again I would bring more beach appropriate items. The playground and bike/walking trails were great. The kids thought it was fun to watch the many tadpoles!

This was a campground with a fun water area for the children. There was a boat launch and water that we could walk very far out in with the children. There were about 70-80 site options, nice walking/bike trails, picnic areas, fire rings, water play area. It felt like there were plenty of camping options with privacy. There were plenty of opportunities to view wildlife as moose came running through our campsite. There was a field through the woods that people were playing softball in late which was fun to watch. I feel like this was a pretty basic campground but the children loved getting into the water.

For starters my children love this campground. It is fun filled with animals, bicycle rentals, basketball court, playground, seasonal berry picking, eagles nest close by, caribou viewing, balcony viewing area, fire rings and fishing is nearby in the Kenai River. The campsites are well groomed with clean bathrooms/shower rooms. The hosts are more than welcoming and make your visit pleasant. There isn’t much to privacy at this campground but it has a nice homey atmosphere. This was nicely located with a fun twist to camping with the animals! We’ve stayed once in the paddock area another in the grass area on the other side. I preferred the open grass area for the children to run around in without animals. I would recommend this campground to families.

We chose this campground because others we normally choose were completely booked. We enjoyed that the campsite has trees (some very large) instead of just an open parking lot. Even though this campground had trees it still didn’t feel very private. There were no electric hook ups, no showers and no dump station that we noticed. I did however read online later that the dump station is located across from the playground. You chose your spot upon arrival then go check in at the entrance via credit card and small machine. There is a small playground on site but if you walk about 7 minutes to Seward elementary the playground is fantastic! My husbands tip for this campground is to not go near the dead end sign with a camper as it’s almost impossible to back out of. The sea life center was about a 10 minute drive, exit glacier hike 15 minute drive and Safeway was the next street over. If you’re looking to be a little out of the city/traffic this was nice but you did have some highway noise from the site. This felt like a friendly atmosphere and I wouldn’t mind staying again.

For starters the road there/scenery isn’t my favorite but once you are there you forget about it. You do get to pass a pretty cool waterfall on the way. Some perks to the place are free coffee, showers $2/10 minutes, pot luck once a weekend, boat launch, cabin rentals, kayaking/tours and much more. It books up fast for some weekends so be sure to make a reservation. My two young children could play all day on the beach area eating an ice cream cone from the little shop while watching the seals/sea otters. This is a great spot and we would definitely come back again.

We camped here for the first time in 2017. We have now made it a plan to visit once every season. We have decided to end our camping season is with this spot. It is perfect for families with a little over 21st come first serve camp sites. The spot is about 30 miles east of the Parks Highway with beautiful views along the way. The kids rode their bikes, picked berries, hiked, fished and played in the creek. I would highly recommend this camping trip be added to your summer!

This was super family friendly. The staff is more than welcoming and I would stay with them again. The no drinking thing was a little surprising but didn’t bother us for traveling through for the night. We rented a canoe and fished on the lake. The kids also went swimming on a super hot day with life vests available to borrow. The road to get the rv up the hill was a little sketch as no room for someone coming in the other direction. This was a very popular place during the day and quiet come night. I hated all of the dust Nd the bathrooms were porter pottys.

I would stay here all summer long! This was a great campground with a beautiful waterfall. Our campsite had a short walk to a waterfall the family and I played in. It was an amazing experience. The showers/bathrooms here weren’t terrible. We filled up our camper with water and dumped our camper at this site with ease. I would 100% stay here again.

We stayed on the river at site 14. The campground host here was nice, helpful and had firewood available to purchase. The camp host asked who we had staying and once he realized two small children he suggested a spot to stay which worked out perfectly. The bathrooms were all close by no matter where you stayed. There was a trail to take a walk by the raging river which was quick and fun. The campsites had a place to park, picnic table, fire pit and playing area. I was surprised by the camp site space.

The rushing river was loud but relaxing. The camp host alone was worth the stay and super helpful/pleasant. Our campsite had an area for the camper then a space for the fire/table and kids running around. Bathroom locations were close and convenient. We did the river trail hike which was fun but didn’t time the fishing right for this trip. The campsites were a good walk away from the camp host but had a joined trail along the back of the sites. It felt a little out in the open but the children had fun.

We ended up finding this campground which was the only with availability in the woods. It was located in the neighborhood behind the playground/Park. If you have children this would be a prime location to hangout. It was perfect to come back to the campsite and play after a long day exploring homer. The toilets were okay, they had water available and not too far from the fishing hole. Bring bats, gloves, soccer balls etc as there is plenty of space to play. If my husband were to go fishing all day I would of been fine hanging out at the site with the children. I’m only giving it 4 stars because we were in the middle of the neighbor which was cute but odd finding the place.

We stayed here using a pull through site, no power with a walking path directly to the lake. It ended up raining the whole weekend but was still a great trip. The camp hosts were helpful with fire wood for sale, the toilets not terrible and bathroom area clean, kayak/canoe rentals on location, water, and a little sand area for kids to play in. We brought a canopy to hide from the rain, canoeing attire, food to cook on the campfire, fishing equipment and warm clothes. The second time we visited we needed shorts and tank tops! I would definitely return for a relaxing day on the lake.
