Quiet, quaint and Big Ants!!!

We stopped here for a break in the drive and considered dropping anchor for the night. Unfortunately we got a creepy vibe when we were getting food at gas station on the other side of the river. Which by the way, has Amazing food cooked to order.

The reality is, it is probably a great place with great people. Our nerves were shot from an accident in a rental car and a unmotivated rv service dept in Boise the day before.

While we did not spend the night, we scoped it out pretty good. There are 4-5 parallel spots right on the river. It’s far enough from the highway that it is peaceful and quiet. Nice little beach on on side of campground. Few trees and lots of shrubs to define each site. Table and fire ring in each site. Toilets are available but didn’t see any showers. It’s got a very secluded feel to it, only a 1/4 mile up a dirt road from the highway and the small town of Rome, Oregon. It has a small dirt ramp to put in a small boat or kayaks. There is a rangers station just above the campsites, so I’d imagine it keeps the riff raff to a minimum at night. Think there is a campground on the north side of the highway too, but it was closed. Covid!!!!

A local told me there is good fishing in the the river and offered to take me, but with music from deliverance playing in the back of my head I graciously declined.

I think under different circumstances, we’d have given it a go and stayed the night. Maybe even have gone fishing with character from the other side of the river. Food was amazing at that gas station and they had a few electric hook up sites there, but that’s where I got my vibes.

Definitely a good place to stop and rest, and get some good grub.

Ohhhh, the ants are huge and plentiful

Great place for kids

I have camped here many times. My kids love it. There is a lot of space for them to scooter or ride bikes. The water park in this campground is top tier! Great for kids and adults. Lazy river compares with those at top hotels. You can also go fishing on the lake, which my daughter loves. Pretty views, nice weather, and a short drive to Ojai if you want to walk around a cute town. I love going here for a weekend getaway.

My home town

This is a small park right in my own home town. Lots of trees, and tucked away in a canyon. There is archery with lessons for kids on the weekends. Very fun! If you are new to RV camping, it’s a good place to practice.

Love it

I love Yosemite! While the campsites are very crowded, I don’t care. The natural beauty of this place forgives every shortfall. I will return again and again.

Sycamore canyon

We stayed here for the weekend in site 50. This was a great campsite! On the end and very secluded. A very short walk to a nice beach. It was not crowded, and most neighbors were respectful, except for the newbies running their generator at all hours! I like this place because you get the woods feeling in the campground, but walk 5 minutes and you are on the beach. Will definitely return soon.

Nice size sites

We visited here last weekend. Had reservations for site 30, which was nice. However, very loud inconsiderate neighbors. They had a huge clan of screaming children and barking dogs. Plus they ran their generator during quiet hours. We walked around the park on day 2 and saw a lot of open sites, and requested to be moved if possible. While the person at the kiosk did let us move, she was not friendly about it, and in fact was quite rude. She said they have every right to be loud in a public place. What about our right to enjoy nature in peace? If I went to a movie theater, a public place, people do not have the right to be loud and ruin my experience, right? Beware of L. Albers, she is not nice. In any case, we moved to site 118, which was beautiful, and quiet. The sites are all pretty big, and are spread out. A bit of a long walk to the beach, but we didn’t have kids, so it was ok. I would go back.

Short stop

We rolled in just for the night. Didn’t enjoy all that this place has to offer, but we walked around and will return. Staff is very friendly and accommodating since we rolled in on a Saturday in august. They found a great end spot for us. The spots very in size and shape, and are tight. Oh, review campground roads are very poorly marked and confusing. The store had all the basics. Walk to beach was not bad either. Plan on coming back, but would need to stay on southwest of the campground, as those sites seem best

Sardine in paradise

Hadn’t been here in over 30 years and it’s still a great camping beach. Beach is clean, swimming is mellow, the tide pools are cool, and you can walk to just about anything you need. There are trains that come through right behind the campsite, but did not seem as obnoxious as I would have thought.

Loved the whole place but one thing. The spots are tight!!!! We felt like we were on top of our neighbors and had to park our car far away. We even had one of the premium spots on the sand (360). Our fire pit and table was within feet of our neighbors stuff. So much for social distancing. Luckily, the camp host, Tom, was awesome! He saw that we got pinched in and loaned us a fire pit that we set up away from the neighbors. Very friendly staff and it appears that they are doing a lot of work on the campground to make it nicer. Just wish they’d make the spots a tad bigger.

I’d go back for sure, but if you are in the mood for seclusion and harnessing your inner introvert. This is not the place for you.

Great beach getaway

This place is close to home, so I’m biased by the ease of getting there and back. It is great little get away for us, and we use it for weekend trips when we can. It’s popular and short notice reservations are hard to come by.

The spots are great, as you are right on the beach and parallel parked. Waking up to the waves crashing is amazing. The sand is good, but there are a lot of rocks. Some buried in the sand that might give you a surprise if barefoot. Water is good but can get rough at times with close brake of the waves.

Crowd seems mellow and friendly. But the spaces are pretty wide and open to the sea, so you can keep to yourself if you so desire. The camp host has wood forsale and is nice.

It is dry camping with the exception of portapottys, and the closest dump station is up the road at sycamore canyon campsite.(free if you stay at Thornhill? Never used it)

Only real drawback to this place is the highway noise on PCH. It mellows out as the night goes on, but the Sunday morning Harley riders with their stupid loud exhaust just plain suck! And I like bikes.

Also gets windy in the afternoon and sometimes overcast. But never oppressive This place is a winner, especially for a quick getaway

Little piece of paradise

I’ll admit we got lucky with our spot and that probably made every difference in the world. Unless you get a ocean front spot, it is cramped in some sites. The sites towards the back have more room but the train at night might annoy you as well as traffic on the highway. The campground is not that large and all the sites are a quick walk to the sand. Nice beach, clean park and bathrooms were acceptable. I hear the staff runs the place with a iron fist, which for rule followers makes for a nice experience I guess. But when I asked where I could get water, I felt like I was in the Seinfeld soup nazi kitchen. People skills could improve. No fire wood available when we were there, but there is a barn that apparently sells it. Dump and water fill up the road at El Capitan. No store or food for miles, but I did see someone getting food delivered one afternoon.

All in all nice quiet dry beach campsite a couple hours north of LA.
