Little Jamaica

Heard a local describe the campground beach as little Jamaica. It stuck with me, especially on a hot sunny day.

We enjoyed our 3 nights but glad to be out of there before the weekend. Not only was there campers who pulled up to the beach but day trippers who crowded in on Friday. We had some good neighbors and was peaceful. Every morning we woke up to wake boats heading out at 7:30am for glass water conditions. No big deal as we wake up early anyways.

Fishing wasn’t great but managed to troll up a few trout for lunch. Mackinaw weren’t cooperative.

The forest service instructions said to park our tow rig and trailer in designated parking at the ramp but we saw no such designated parking.

The fire rules were confusing. Posted on one of the campground bathrooms had a sign saying no fires, however the forest service website said that fires were allowed in designated campgrounds (Cultus was listed) and we spoke with the operators of the resort and they said the same thing about it being OK.

Come early or come late as there isn’t much trailer parking at the ramp.

Clean and Good Infrastructure

Paved roads, clean grounds, picnic tables on concrete slabs so no animals can hide out and wait for snacks. Well organized campground. The boat ramp could use some renovations to allow multiple launch lines and better parking. Can be a zoo around the ramp in the afternoon so be prepared.

Can get a bit noisy when full but was very quiet at night time. Didn’t help that our neighbor liked to play country music at an unacceptable level 😡, but eventually figured out they were annoying fellow campers.

Very Cramped

Used the boat ramp, which was nice with lots of space, however trailer parking was very limited. The camp ground sites didn’t have any privacy, very open and most sites filled with RVs. Noisy with their generators running too. I would not camp here.

Drift Boat

Good enough to launch a drift boat.

Long Haul

Can be a long haul from the boat to the camp site. Lots of dock space. Sites are back from the water. Could use a map of the island and sites.

Rough Road

Lovely area but the road in and around lake is rough. I would not recommend an RV into this site. Toilets kept clean. Sites are good size but not real level between tent pads and tables/vehicles. Fish in the lake late in the summer can be hard to find/catch but they are in there if you try hard enough. Look for the deep holes. There are two of them.

First to Review
ORV Haven

Ended up here driving back from the coast. Some good sites with shade and some not so good site open to the sun. Can be loud with bikes and ATV’s running around at all hours of the day.

First Visit

First camping trip of the year. Most of the sites were fairly private with vegetation separating them. Quiet too. We had a riverfront site but couldn’t see the river thru the forest and pictures were deceiving. Couldn’t actually access the water. Enjoyed day tripping to Green Peter/Quartzville and then Clear Lake the next day. Site got fairly muddy in the rain. Vault toilets were very clean. No camp host or firewood for sale even thought rec.gov said there was.
