Was busy over the Labor Day weekend, prob around 50 trailers all together, couldn’t even count all the tents. We found a nice area for our 27 foot trailer that wasn’t too close to our neighbors. There are areas that are very shaded and areas that are open. Great for starlink and solar power. My only complaint was the trash that other campers left, mostly those tenting. A few had fires going even though it’s clearly posted NO FIRES. There was a notice posted saying the county is considering making it a reservation/charge area. $5 per night, tenting areas and smaller back in shaded areas are past the pit restroom. When you turn into the area, take the road to the left at the sign for the open area, the road straight is rough and heavily shaded.

We stopped here on our way to north Minnesota. Originally we planned 2 days but really needed to rest so extended it to 4 days. It was a little hairy getting to, the 2 lane winding road with the raging river on one side did slow us down a bit.  The Rangers were friendly and accommodating. The park had taken quite a beating with the winter storm that had been there the previous week, a lot of sites were closed due to trees down and snow.  While we were there they were actively cleaning up, but left in the afternoon so we had no disturbances from saws or equipment noise. The water was not turned on yet for the season, so the bathroom/showers and dump station were not available.  There was a potable water source at the front of our loop to fill our fresh tank and our water storage cubes.  The sites were shaded well, and easy to back into.  We had to work a bit to get our camper level but that may have been due to the snow and water that was on the site so we figured it was par for the course.  We walked to the Welcome Center and the swinging bridge, there were multiple hiking trails accessible by the camping area.  It was relatively busy on the weekend but cleared out during the week.  We had lots of wildlife visitors.  The park is pet friendly.  We found affordable propane and a dump site closer to Duluth.

The hostess was very accommodating and friendly. We had a packaged delivered to the campground before we arrived and had no problems with it. Ice and laundry facilities are available. The sites were level and easily accessible, no shade but that worked well for us using the Starlink.  There were pull throughs and back in sites, I think there are tent sites in the field beside the RV area.  The sites were full hookup and clean. Campground is pet friendly,  with a large area to walk dogs beside it. The New River Gorge NP visitor center was approx 20 min away, hiking trails were close by.  We did not do shopping or laundry at this location but I did see a Walmart in the vicinity and I am sure a laundromat would be in the city too. The campground had a small common area with chairs and a fire pit. for group gatherings.

We loved this campground, It is beside the Boondocks Bar and Grill and is owned by the same people. Dez and Kirk were the consummate hosts, friendly and so nice, we could not have asked for better. We cold called them last minute in late April, most of the other campgrounds were not open for the season, but they welcomed us, which saved our butts because we literally would have had to drive hours and completely redo our itinerary. The Bar and Grill is next door and has great food, awesome drinks, friendly locals and bingo on Thursday nights. The campground is easily accessible and the sites are not difficulty to back into, all were graveled and we had minimal leveling, even with the water and mud. I think there are at least 1 or 2 pull throughs but due to the snow and standing water we parked in site #2.  They have 30 and 50 amp, potable water (wasn't on throughout the park when we were there due to the weather) and a dump site at the exit. They are pet friendly and there are areas for walking leashed pets behind the park.  It is conveniently right off the highway and we did not even notice any traffic noises in the evening. International Falls is approx 20 minutes away, with shopping, laundromat and the Canadian Border.  Voyageurs NP, Rainy Lake Visitor Center is approx 30 min. This is now our go to campground when we visit Voyageurs NP.
