If you keep going down this road (road curves to the left just past lone mesa campground), and drive to the end of the road, there are a ton of open campsites. A lot are right on the edge of the canyon and a good amount of space between each site. 100% primitive so please be conscientious of your waste. Make sure to only camp in spots with designated rings as to preserve the biological soil crust!
This Rd has a ton of free and open campsites. We got in pretty late around 930 on a Friday in May and we were still able to find a spot (just our car). There is no water, but there are port a pottys along the road every couple hundred feet. Pretty quiet except for off roaders getting rowdy. Definitely a great spot if you need one and have no other options
