My son has been in scouting since he was 5, so for the last 10 years we have been camping as a family or with scouts at least once a month.

Visit Canyon de Chelly

Stayed here two night so we could hike and horse back ride in canyon de Chelly. This campground could be better the grasse in the site needed to be mowed. It’s a nice location close to the opening of the canyon and horseback rides are across the street. Be careful what you leave out theft here is a problem, we had our bumper hitch stolen while we were in town shopping.

Freeway campground

I have stayed at this campground several time it was a New Mexico Stae Park, it has since been turned over to the city of Gallup as a city park. There are several hiking and horseback riding trails around this campground. One of the best is to castle rock a really good hike. Make sure you call to check for availability, there is a rodeo arena near by and will fill up if there is a rodeo.

4th of July

Stayed here during 4th of July stayed in the group site . It’s a large area with water and a lot of parking. It has a large shade with several picnic tables and a fire ring. The down side it’s a ways from the lake at the top of the hill. Lots of things for kids to do here, this is a great area to take your family.

Summer Camp

Spent two nights here in June, very nice campground each site has a picnic table, fire ring and trash can nearby. Lots of trees for shade. Water is available at the visitor center a short drive away. El Morro is a great place to explore. Highly recommend this place to stay

Christmas camping

Went here over Christmas school break stayed here two nights, there are 3 group sites here. Nice spaces with flash toilets and running water. There are several parking spots or each group site. While we were there we had several people park in the empty spots and sleep in their cars cause they didn’t have reservations, also during the day random people just show up and use the empty picnic tables at your site.

Close

This campground is close to the 15 and 215 interstate freeways, with easy access. It is better to make a reservation then to just show up. There are RV sites and tent sites as well as group camp sites. Not much to do at the campground but if you go across the street to the park there is fishing and picnic areas.

Easy drive to the sky

Stayed here two nights in August, it was nice and cool a good break from the heat. There are a lot of sites here for camping unfortunately they are not all open for use. There are several hiking trails here that are well used and well maintained. This is a great campground near the city. Due to lack of rainfall and snow melt the lake is almost dry.

Stream campground

This is a small campground with a stream running by it. Camped here in June and the water was moving fast, and cold, put drinks in the stream to cool them. Each site has a table and fire ring, with trees for shade. It is walking distance from intake 2 lake fishing. Toilets and water are available this is a nice campground.

Weekend Getaway

my wife and I came here to camp and hike for the weekend. This is a nice campground with picnic tables, shade covers and fire rings. We camped here in April and it was already getting warm during the day. This campground is very popular with rock climbers', with several places to climb and several hiking trail.

nice trails

This is a nice campground, it has limited water that has to be trucked in to fill the holding tanks. Pit toilets, and playground equipment for those camping with younger kids. There are several nice hikes from the campground. Have seen collage classes and Boy scouts troops using this campground. You can't camp with horses in this campground, but there is horse camping near by.

High Desert Camping

This camp site is a BLM campground with water and and Pit toilets. Stargazer's, off-roaders and Boy Scouts use this campground. It's one of the few places that the Mojave River flows above ground. This is a really nice campground.
