We stopped in for the night while passing through. The park and facilities were clean, but the park was only half full. The park is right below the freeway, so there is some road noise, though we didn’t find it to be too bad. The biggest issue here is access from the west. You have to drive several miles past the park to the east to the next available exit, then come back headed west to get to it. If you leave to head east, you have to enter onto the freeway headed west then exit and turn around. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning.
The waves are loud, the cell service sucks and the Wi-Fi is very spotty…which makes it a perfect spot to get away! If you get a premium spot, you are almost right on the beach, which is pretty private since there’s no public access. This beats the crowded State Park system any day!
Like others have stated, this is a nice quiet spot for a stop over. We stayed one night on our way from southern Oregon to Fort Bragg, CA. It’s clean and convenient.
This is a great spot to explore Crater Lake and Lava Beds National Monument from. The owner was very accommodating when we wanted to check in early. The bathrooms are newly remodeled, very clean with free hot showers! Even though the park is pretty close to the highway it is a very peaceful place next to the river. It was still in the middle of some site upgrades when we were there but it was not an inconvenience at all.
