My wife and I came here in our pop up camper. We had never even heard of this camp ground and booked it primarily because we were looking for a nice campground with availability. We arrived after the Trading Post / Office was closed, and we hit a snag right off the bat. Our campsite (21) was really not a site for a pop up camper. This was definitely more of a tent site. Luckily the camp host was super nice and accommodating. He put us in spot 23, and luckily we were able to reserve it for the whole stay. This was a nice private camp site, great for a pop up or tent, but wouldnt be good for a big RV. There were trails all behind our site, and it was secluded which worked out great because our dog could relax without people passing the site constantly. The staff here is extremely pleasant and very helpful and facilities are extremely clean.
We played 9 holes at The Creek, a real nice golf course that is in the state park. We really enjoyed the golfing here, but we are not advanced golfers. We also fished off the dock at Lake Rutledge. What a beautiful lake. We would have rented a boat, but we were not able to due to Covid.
We were so happy here, that we have been talking about returning with the kids. There is a miniature golf course and a playground. We may even ask the grandparents to come. They don't like camping but there are beautiful cabins here.
I highly recommend Hard Labor Creek State Park. A hidden gem.
This place is very cool. I love the raised boardwalk style bike paths all over the place. Our kids rode their bikes all over the place here. You can also take a path to the beach or the pier. Just a nice place. We camped in a tent here… but we were literally the only tent here that week. Everyone was in an RV. We have since purchased a pop up camper so we will return and fit in better lol…
This place is hopping as far as a campground goes. Music playing and it's pretty crowded. But this is the place I go to with my old college friends once a year, and it's good for that. Rafting and hiking is always a great time, and you can have a good campfire with music and a few beers and nobody is going to bother you.
This place has it all. Snorkeling, beautiful beach, fishing, hiking, history, a little nature center… just everything. It is very difficult to reserve a site here, but if you can get one, you are in for one of your best camping experiences ever. We just loved it and I can't wait to go back there.
I love this place. Good snorkeling, good camping, beautiful location. We just loved it. My only complaint is there were some kind of bugs at our camp site… sand fleas? Not sure, but we were itching all the way home. Spray yourself with whatever prevents those things!
I love this place, it may be the best camping experience I ever had. I loved unzipping my tent and being 15 feet away from the water. It is difficult to get a site here, they go fast. But I have had luck just showing up and getting in because someone else cancelled.
This place has no electric hookups, but a good enough bath house. We come here annually. The staff is nice at the campground and at the lake you can hike to (or drive to) that is associated with the campground. The lake is beautiful, and we were lucky enough to catch a raptor show there. The kids love this campground. They can ride their bikes around and they play all day long. Close proximity to the horseshoe falls and other great hikes.
Cool place and our kids absolutely love it. We go tubing every day. The kids bring their bikes and everyone enjoys some river fishing. Plus the nearby town of Bryson city is very nice. I highly recommend spending the extra money to get a riverfront site!!!
Rangers were very nice, beach is cool, nice lake front sites. We had a fun time here, especially the kids. They loved riding their bikes around in this great family friendly campground.
Nice campground. If you enjoy having a beer while camping don’t come here. Beautiful day, beer in a solo cup playing cards with my wife at a picnic table. We were not making noise, nobody complained about us. Ranger pulls up and gave us both tickets. We had a mandatory court appearance, turns out each ticket is $280.00. No warning, I couldn’t believe what happened. Other than that, it’s a good campground. We won’t be back.
