We camped in a tent, but most others were in RVs. It was very rowdy and loud at night but the campgrounds are in a good location next to Shasta Lake.

This is a very easy camping site for beginners. Lots of great trails, and the most incredible cliff-like waterfall, with the water not just coming over the top, but shooting out of cracks all long the rock face. There is a store on site with a decent selection of camping and convenience store items, and firewood is for sale at the gate. Amazing caving nearby too.

Easy shady campsites. Miles of trails and very easy to get to from most parts of the Bay Area.

Super user-friendly campsites that are good for beginners. Lots of great hiking trails in redwoods for all levels.

Campsites are fairly spare, with some having shade. There is an interesting Ranch House and Museum that showcases the life of Joseph Grant and his offspring, with many eccentric and macabre details of their history in the area.

Large, user-friendly campsites surrounded by redwood trees. Great ferny hiking trails for every level of camper/hiker. Very easy access to campsites and near Pescadero and Highway One.

There are lots of flat sites along the hills here, most with shady areas. The Fremont Peak Observatory is on the mountain above the campsites, and there are good trails for hiking. Water is not available, and fires are not always allowed.

This was a great, quiet collection of sites under tall pines. Not far from McCloud and Weed, and easy access to Medicine Lake and other recreation areas are nearby.

I visited in September of 2017, and it was not too crowded. It is unbelievably peaceful and quiet. Plenty of fallen wood to collect for fires, and by September it does get very cold at night - our water froze, and it was super cold in the tent. Very close to good caving at Lava Beds, and lots to explore in Modoc County.
