Inland park that benefits from so many people wanting the beach! Lightly used campground that was very well maintained, beautiful, and a great place to relax. The park is beautiful, too, but the trails seem a bit challenging for me. I stayed a second night just because I was enjoying the respite.
If we had a lot of activities to do on the island, this campground would be super convenient and practical. The campground itself is too tight for me, like a parking lot with some trees and bushes. Not at all relaxing for me, especially with my six dogs. That said, the amenities are totally complete, you couldn’t really ask for more.
Again, last-minute choice for an overnight that was a pleasant surprise. The campground itself isn’t that big, and the main loop is wide open with pads not far apart. If you want to hang out with other campers, this would be the place. We picked a site on the far, little loop which was much more private. Not much to do in the campground itself, but the park looks great. I’d come back and kayak the bayous. Not to mention hike. Very pretty place, looks well maintained.
Got in late at night, so was nice of a ranger to call me with the gate combination. Hard to navigate the campground at night, and, when I finally found our reserved site, someone else had taken it. Didn’t look like a reserved sign was posted. The next site over was open—and also without a reserved sign—so we took it. The park probably has a lot to offer, but it was too hot and humid for me and the dogs. We just hung out in the rv, in the a/c. So glad we had good power and water. Overall, campground was fine: sites aren’t that roomy or private, but totally acceptable. Easy and pleasurable drive into NOLA is a big plus!
Second time here and love it as much as before. Huge, open space, great views, hiking, and privacy. Stayed in our rv this time, but the cabin is spacious and well appointed. Too bad they doubled the rates. Maybe making a reservation will be easier?
We only stayed overnight while traveling through, but this was a really nice spot. Not the most private sites but big enough. Families seemed to be having a lot of lake fun.
Just stopped for the night, but we will be back! Nice privacy and beautiful lakeside sites. We will reserve next time to get the perfect site. We were lucky to get a place on the spur of the moment. Edited to add: potable water was brown but clear.
