We had two beautiful days at Beckler River CG. Site 25 was very roomy and private yet had access to Site 24 via a little pathway so we were able to cross back and forth to see our friends camping next door. There’s lots of trails you can access via a short drive. We have AT&T which had great reception. The vault toilet was clean. There’s no water available in the CG so make sure you bring extra water.

I gave this park a high rating primarily because of its location. It is a great place to launch your Mount Saint Helens exploration, with a Washington State Visitor Center you can walk to from the campground. We had hookups but our site was very close to the site next to us and we had no privacy there. If you don’t need hookups, I would recommend the loop that has 32 - 54. These were much more private and actually had better Wi-Fi than our location. Bathrooms are convenient and have free showers. There was better hot water at the bathroom on the loop with sites 32 - 54.

We used this campground as a one night layover on our way to sunny California. Ordinarily we would have booked a campsite in the Redwoods State and National Park but storm damage from earlier this winter closed many of the campgrounds in the area. It was nice having showers available. We appreciated that staff was proactive in changing our site to a more convenient one to the front bathrooms for the same price as one we had booked further back. They did this because they were repairing the back bathrooms.

We used Honeyman as a one night stop heading to California to get some winter sunshine. We were very familiar with the park and it is an easy drive from our home in the Seattle area. Where on our previous trip we had a site with a small river running through it in April, this site was beautiful and private, close enough but not too close to the restrooms and showers. The showers were wonderful - individual units. I would definitely book this site again if we return sometime.

We chose Ike Kinswa for the first camping trip together with our 3 year old grand twins and their parents because we had a brief visit there in 2021 and were impressed by their campsites. They have wonderful sites for RVs and tents - large but somewhat private. Plenty of leg room for restless 3 year olds. Bathrooms are convenient. Our sites had views of the lake and access to an lake trail. Staff was responsive to any questions. The Ranger even noticed our kids had left early and got us a refund for one night . This was processed already to our credit card a couple of days after he offered it. Lake Mayfield, where it is located, is beautiful for kayaking, fishing, swimming in approved areas, canoeing, as well as water skiing. During our visit there weekend off the 4th of July there was not an over abundance of motorized boats, though. You can just put up your hammock and enjoy!

There is something for every type of camper at Cape Disappointment. Wonderful hiking, beautiful beaches, two lighthouses, fishing, proximity to Long Beach, WA and Astoria, OR for even more exploration, plenty of room to ride bikes, breathtaking views, and sites for tents, small RVs and campers, large RVs. You are at the location the mighty Columbia River roars into the mighty Pacific Ocean, creating treacherous conditions for ships. Savor the wildness!

This was our first time at Penrose Point State Park. We are so fortunate to have so many State parks along the beaches of the Sound. Penrose Point is located across Carr Inlet from Gig Harbor and Fox Island. There are trails and beaches to explore. Lovely large campsites. No hookups available but isn't dry camping just taking us back to the purity of camping? There are showers and flush toilets. Nearby Joemma Beach State Park offers even more to explore with a wonderful dock for fishing, crabbing, loading your boat, or just watching the sea life in the waters below.

We found Bonaparte Lake Campground through Dyrt when sites were not available at Curlew State Park and we needed some place in that Okanagon/Ferry County area of Washington. Part of Bonaparte Lake is available by reservation. We lucked out at the time and found what ended up being the perfect site. It had plenty of room for our A Frame trailer and truck and could have fit another vehicle on the site. The table/fire ring area was generous and private, with space for our dog to be on a 25 ft lead. In fact, the whole site was very private with the campers to the right of us at least 50 feet away from us and no one to the back of us or to the left of us directly. I guess I should stop saying how great our site was so we can get it again sometime! In our loop we only had pit toilets. In the non-reservation loop there was one restroom with flush toilets and then other pit toilets. No showers available. The non-reservation loop had lovely sites as well with some right on the lake. Our loop had lake sites, too. The camp host was amazingly helpful and friendly, giving us maps of things to do in the area. We took a loop to find old ghost towns and remnants in the area plus other loops. We tried to schedule our trip up this way in July to beat the smoke from forest fires but unfortunately due to early heat conditions and dryness forest fires started early this year. We ran into some smoke the 2nd day of our trip there but the third day was clearer. It never got bad while we were at Bonaparte Lake but just over the mountains in Oroville where we went to get gas, it was in the unhealthy range of the Air Quality Index. We will definitely go back to Bonaparte again sometime. It would make a beautiful trip in the early fall.

Campgrounds are full. Camping is one of the safest ways to get out and about yet still practice social distancing. Luckily we planned our trip before COVID-19 appeared and we were able to go on our trip in spite of COVID. And luckily we had reservations. Colonial Creek South Campground on Diablo Lake was a wonderful place to camp. Our site was big enough for our A Frame Pop Up camper and it had a nice private picnic table and tent area we could have used if we’d had extra people camping with us. We were right across from the camp sites that backed up to Diablo Lake and have already scoped a camp site on that side we’d love to check out next summer. There’s lots of lovely hikes in the area. The campground was kept very clean. Kayaking, boating, swimming (although the water is cold) - the lake is a beautiful turquoise jewel in the heart of the North Cascades. We can’t wait to go back.

So many people have dusted off their camping gear or bought new gear and are out and about. Colonial Creek North Campground, which is not reservable, was full mid week. Usually we’ve been able to get non-reserved camp sites mid week easily. So just a word to the wise if you are going camping, arrive early or get reservations where possible.
